Position Summary

The Senior Product Manager will drive product management for F5's Web Application Firewall (WAF) capabilities across modern application environments, including containerized and cloud-native architectures built on Nginx, Envoy, and Kubernetes. This role requires strong technical depth in application security, hands-on familiarity with modern proxy and service mesh technologies, and working knowledge of AI/agentic application architectures to help shape F5's approach to AI workload protection. The Senior PM will partner closely with architecture PMs, engineering, and go-to-market teams to deliver features that keep F5's WAAP portfolio ahead of an evolving threat and technology landscape.

Primary Responsibilities

Product Delivery

  • Own product management activities for WAF capabilities spanning modern app environments (Nginx, Envoy, Kubernetes/container-based deployments)
  • Define and prioritize requirements for extending WAF protections to AI-driven and agentic application workloads
  • Contribute to technical marketing content — reference architectures, solution briefs, and customer case studies — to drive product awareness
  • Support web content, whitepapers, and product demonstrations that drive customer adoption in partnership with product and technical marketing
  • Drive adoption of new WAF and AI workload protection capabilities through customer enablement, sales/partner readiness, and structured adoption tracking
  • Track and report on product and business performance, bringing data-backed insights to business reviews

Customer Engagement & Feedback

  • Engage directly with customers to understand their security goals, technical constraints, and requirements for protecting modern and AI-powered applications
  • Translate customer feedback into prioritized backlog items based on business value and technical feasibility

Market Analysis

  • Monitor competitive and market developments in Kubernetes, cloud-native application/API security (WAAP) and AI workload protection
  • Validate demand and usage patterns to inform roadmap decisions
  • Stay current on developments in cloud-native application delivery, service mesh, and AI agent architectures

Team Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering to translate requirements into well-scoped product backlog items and support seamless rollouts
  • Build strong working relationships across engineering, sales, marketing, and customer support
  • Collaborate with Principal PMs and senior stakeholders on portfolio-level prioritization decisions
  • Work with marketing and sales to support smooth product delivery and go-to-market execution

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical Skills

  • Hands-on experience with networking/cybersecurity products such as firewalls, proxies, or WAFs, and core networking concepts
  • Working knowledge of modern app infrastructure: Nginx, Envoy, Kubernetes, and container/cloud-native environments
  • Familiarity with AI tooling and agentic application architectures, with the ability to reason about associated security risks and workload protection needs
  • Understanding of SaaS security services and delivery models

Stakeholder Management

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Ability to manage expectations across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Comfortable operating with a data-driven approach in a fast-paced, changing environment

Analytical Skills

  • Strong business analysis skills, with the ability to translate raw data into clear, actionable product and business insights
  • Proficient in building metrics, dashboards, and reports using AI-powered analytics tools, in addition to traditional BI platforms (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Power BI, SQL)
  • Able to define and track KPIs that measure product adoption, usage, and business impact
  • Working knowledge of data analytics to support decision-making
  • Awareness of emerging technology trends and their potential impact on F5's business

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field
  • Networking & cybersecurity technical background required
  • 5+ years in technical product management or a related domain
  • 3+ years of product management experience in cybersecurity
  • Exposure to cloud-native application environments (containers, Kubernetes, service mesh, microservices) and/or AI application architectures strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience building business metrics and reports using AI-powered analytics tools, moving beyond traditional BI platforms (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Power BI, SQL) to leverage AI-assisted data analysis and reporting
