The Graphic Designer - Podcasting & Social Media position exists to create the visual identity that pulls listeners and viewers into Focus on the Family's podcasts and social channels. This role designs episode artwork, thumbnails, and platform-native graphics for the ministry's podcasts and social media channels, ensuring every piece reflects Focus on the Family’s brand standards while optimizing for the visual conventions of each platform. This role partners closely with podcast producers, videographers, and community managers to deliver a high volume of creative assets on weekly publishing schedules. Working under the direction of the Podcasting & Social Media Director, the Graphic Designer balances brand consistency with the testing and iteration needed to drive audience growth on YouTube, Facebook, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, X, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Designs long-form thumbnails for YouTube and podcast platform listings (Spotify, Apple Podcasts), producing volume aligned with the weekly podcast publishing cadence across all assigned podcast sub-teams.
Designs short-form thumbnails and platform-native graphics for Reels, Shorts, TikTok, and similar formats.
Creates full-frame visual assets used during podcast episodes such as lower-thirds, key art, overlays, and episode title cards that reinforce series identity.
Builds bio, profile, and channel banner updates across YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook to keep podcast brand presence current.
Conducts long-form and short-form thumbnail performance analysis, partnering with producers and community managers to identify which visual approaches drive higher click-through and engagement.
Iterates on thumbnail design based on data, A/B test results, and audience response.
Adheres to Focus on the Family's brand standards while adapting them to the visual conventions of each social platform.
Partners with producers, videographers, and community managers in production planning so visual assets are ready in time for episode releases.
Manages multiple parallel design queues across the assigned podcast sub-teams, prioritizing based on publishing schedules and campaign priorities.
Archives source files, exports, and master assets in shared storage so producers and downstream teams can find and reuse them.
Stays current with social platform visual specs, thumbnail trends, typography practices, and design tools relevant to the podcasting and social media space.

Knowledge/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic communications, design, or related major, or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of graphic design experience, with portfolio examples in social media, podcasting, or digital content visuals
- Strong portfolio demonstrating thumbnail and short-form social design
- Fluent in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Working knowledge of platform-specific design specs for YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Instagram, and TikTok
- Understanding of how thumbnail performance is measured (CTR, impressions, watch-through)
- Aptitude for learning new design tools and platform formats
Skills, Abilities, and Special Talents/Gifts:
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to design at scale and meet weekly publishing deadlines
- Comfort with iteration, A/B testing, and data-informed creative decisions
- Strong typographic and layout skills tuned for small-format display (thumbnails viewed on mobile)
- Photography selection and image-editing skills for hero imagery
- Excellent oral and written communication and facilitation skills
- Ability to work with limited supervision and manage multiple concurrent project queues
- Adaptability to new platform specs and emerging social formats

Pay Range: $ 62,431 to $ 74,783
