Full description

Looking to build your project management career while working on meaningful infrastructure projects?

We're looking for a Project Coordinator or early-career Project Manager to join our team in Gisborne.

This is a great opportunity for someone with around 3+ years' experience who is ready to take the next step in their career. You'll work closely with an experienced Frequency Senior Project Manager, gaining hands-on experience across project delivery while being supported, challenged, and mentored as you grow.

While a background in construction or infrastructure projects would be ideal, we're equally interested in exceptional candidates who can demonstrate strong project coordination skills, excellent communication, sound judgement, and a genuine desire to learn.

About Frequency

Frequency is a New Zealand-owned specialist project advisory consultancy that has been helping clients deliver better infrastructure outcomes for over a decade. We work across sectors including Health, Education, Transport, Water, Airports, and Ports, partnering closely with our clients to provide practical advice and hands-on project delivery support. Our approach is built on strong relationships, collaboration, and sharing knowledge that leaves our clients better equipped for the future.

The Opportunity

Based full-time in Gisborne, you'll support the delivery of significant infrastructure projects, working alongside both our client team and Frequency's experienced project professionals. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the variety of project work and is keen to build their experience across project planning, coordination, stakeholder engagement, reporting, and delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the preparation and maintenance of project documentation, plans, reports, schedules, and registers
  • Coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, capturing actions, and following up on deliverables
  • Assisting with project planning, procurement, and delivery activities
  • Monitoring project progress and helping to identify and manage risks and issues
  • Building positive working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Contributing to project reporting and communications
  • Supporting Senior Project Managers with the day-to-day delivery of projects

About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, proactive, and enjoys working with people. You might currently be a Project Coordinator looking to step up, or a Project Manager in the early stages of your career who wants exposure to experienced senior practitioners and complex infrastructure projects.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  • Around 3+ years' project coordination or project management experience
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, property, engineering, or a similar project-based environment is desirable
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • A proactive approach to problem solving
  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Professional presentation and a collaborative working style

Most importantly, you'll be someone who takes ownership, follows through on commitments, and enjoys being part of a team delivering great outcomes for clients.

How we work (and how you'll grow):

We're office-first because in-person collaboration accelerates learning, strengthens relationships, and helps us solve problems faster. In this role, you'll be based in Gisborne, embedded within our client's project environment and working alongside an experienced Frequency Senior Project Manager. You'll stay close to the work, the client team, and key project stakeholders, with flexibility supported where it makes sense.

We're also intentional about development at Frequency. Whether you're stepping up from a Project Coordinator role or building your experience as a Project Manager, you'll be supported through structured pathways that develop both your delivery capability and consulting confidence. You'll have access to regular coaching and mentoring from experienced project leaders, opportunities to take ownership of project responsibilities, and exposure to complex infrastructure projects that will help accelerate your growth.

What you'll get:

  • 5 weeks' annual leave
  • 4.5% employer KiwiSaver contribution
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Wellbeing benefit and access to EAP for you and your whānau
  • Learning and development support (forums, training budgets, professional memberships)
  • Regular team connection moments and events
  • Direct mentoring and support from experienced project leaders

If you're a motivated project professional looking to grow your project management career while contributing to meaningful infrastructure projects in Gisborne, we'd love to hear from you.
