About Kulfi

Kulfi is where couples in India spend time together, even when they can't be in the same place.

About 100 million unmarried Indian couples don't get to be together most nights. Different cities, different homes, parents around. A phone is all they have. So they join a class just to be near each other, or stay on a one-way call, or watch a movie over video. They do all this for love, and nothing was built for them.

We are building that. Kulfi is a digital experiences app for couples, and close to a million people already use it. We did not get here by spending. Daily users grew 4x in 30 days this summer. We added 100,000 users in the first 20 days of August without paying for a single ad. 80% of all play happens between 9pm and midnight. That is bedtime, and we own it. We are backed by South Park Commons and by founders and CEOs from Swiggy, Mosaic Wellness, Snitch and Moonshot.

Next is an AI personalization engine for games. Every couple gets a new game every day, made for them on the spot from what they like. Our team already ships a new game in about two days. No couple should run out of things to do together.

India has more couples than any other country. We want every one of them on Kulfi.

We are a small, high-intensity team. Your work will reach real users quickly, and you will be expected to notice what is broken—not wait for someone else to notice it for you.

What You Will Do

Own Data

Instrument Event Schemas: Define, document, and audit user information (events, properties, user profiles) across all app updates, ensuring zero tracking issues.

Own Primary Conversion Funnels: Build and monitor core tracking dashboards in Mixpanel and Metabase like user onboarding, couple-pairing completion, game lobby drop-offs, and push notification open rates.

Product Thinking & Experimentation

Monitor Core Metrics: Track onboarding, activation, retention curves, etc. regularly and form hypotheses to achieve internal goals.

Translate Data into Hypotheses: Move beyond pull requests for dashboards. Identify the exact step where users drop off and hand PMs actionable, pre-scoped hypotheses.

Evaluate A/B Experiments: Run statistical significance, sample size, and guardrail metric analyses for live A/B tests across onboarding and retention loops.

Complex SQL & Cohort Analytics

Write Production-Grade SQL: Query raw production databases directly using advanced SQL to answer non-standard product questions.

Data Hygiene & Anomaly Detection: Run daily validation checks to flag telemetry drops, duplicate events, or logging mismatches between Android and iOS.

What We Are Looking For

A. Technical Skills

SQL Fluency: Writing optimized, multi-table queries, complex aggregations, and subqueries without relying on visual query builders.

Mixpanel Mastery: Practical knowledge of Mixpanel’s core reports (Funnels, Retention Cohorts, Flows, Formulas, and Custom Events).

B. Product Thinking

First-Principles Behavioural Empathy: You understand that data points reflect emotional couple rituals. You ask why, not just what.

Metric Tree Architecture: Ability to break a top-level goal (e.g., D7 retention) down into clear input and leading indicators.

C. Super Curious & High Agency

Proactive Investigation: When a metric dips, you dig into raw logs, device categories, and app versions before anyone asks.

Extreme Ownership: You refuse to accept dirty data or untracked features; you confront engineering and product to fix broken telemetry immediately.

Bonus Points (Helpful, Not Required)

Experience with Python or R for exploratory data analysis and statistical validation.

Familiarity with logging and experimentation infrastructure (DataDog, PostHog, etc.).

Prior work on consumer social, mobile gaming, or two-sided marketplaceD datasets.

What Success Looks Like

Within 30 Days:

Complete a full audit of Mixpanel event taxonomy; fix missing tracking properties; deliver a complete cohort baseline for nightly active couples.

Lead statistical analysis for ongoing onboarding A/B tests.

Within 90 Days:

Uncover a non-obvious retention driver that directly shapes the product roadmap.

Interview Process

Application Screen: Review of SQL competency, analytical projects, and data storytelling.

15-Minute Intro Screen: Evaluates product curiosity, structured reasoning, and technical baseline.

90-Minute Live SQL & Product Analytics Jam

45-Minute Founder Chat: Deep dive into analytical rigor, intellectual honesty, and high agency.
