The opportunity

We’re seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our Group Networks team.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in the efficient operation and availability of the Optus network. You’ll provide assurance and delivery across complex network transmission equipment and associated systems, including Customer Assurance and Network Assurance. You’ll also perform critical routines, preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance while collaborating with national and divisional teams to optimise network operations.

This is an opportunity to combine deep telecommunications expertise with practical field support, technical leadership and continuous improvement.

This position is NSW BNS Field Assurance - Field / Customer / Network Faults. There will be 24/7 On Call rotating every 5 persons covering NSW Core - FAN / HUB / Mobile / Customer sites - Including supporting State Disaster Events with Generator / SAT CAT deployments restoring Optus community services as a priority.

What you’ll do

  • Provide Level 1/2 assurance and delivery for systems within the facility, including fault response and completion of network build activities.
  • Provide Level 2 support for complex network transmission equipment and associated assurance systems.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for systems maintenance and commissioning across a range of networks and facilities.
  • Perform critical routines and preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Mentor, coach and support peers and subordinate team members, enabling effective knowledge transfer and training for new team members.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis, fault investigation and process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with national and divisional teams to improve network operations, resilience and availability.
  • Support the deployment and recovery of Sat Cats, Leo SATCATS, flyaway kits and portable generators during disasters and other operational requirements.
  • Work remotely at Optus fault locations when required.

What you’ll bring

  • Full Drivers license with ability to perform physical tasks.
  • A qualification in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Telecommunications experience, including the ability to contribute to technical and business strategy development.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate a skilled team of professional engineers and cadets.
  • Extensive engineering experience across telecommunications and transmission network deployment.
  • Experience with, Ethernet, IP routing and legacy fibred equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across national and divisional teams.
  • A commitment to safety, operational excellence, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
