We are hiring a Java Engineer (DevOps-Oriented)
Hybrid working model - Novi Sad or Belgrade office
Role Description:
We are seeking a Java Engineer with DevOps expertise to join our engineering team supporting large-scale enterprise and financial systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working across both application development and platform engineering, contributing to the design, development, deployment, and operation of modern cloud-native solutions.
You will work in a collaborative environment alongside software engineers, DevOps specialists, and business stakeholders to build scalable applications, automate delivery processes, and enhance operational excellence across the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications and microservices
- Build and integrate applications leveraging event-driven and pub/sub architectures
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable efficient and reliable software delivery
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot applications running in Kubernetes environments
- Create and maintain Docker containers and containerized application deployments
- Support cloud-native application development and deployment within AWS environments
- Monitor application performance, system health, and operational metrics using observability and monitoring tools
- Participate in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and production support activities
- Contribute to infrastructure automation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure security, reliability, scalability, and maintainability across applications and environments
- Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices
- Maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, and operational runbooks
- Collaborate closely with development and operations teams, balancing responsibilities across both domains as project needs evolve
Your Profile:
- Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in Java software development
- Strong proficiency in Java and object-oriented programming principles
- Experience developing and maintaining RESTful APIs and microservices
- Familiarity with event-driven systems and pub/sub messaging patterns
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms such as Bamboo, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar
- Experience working with Docker and containerized applications
- Knowledge of Kubernetes concepts and deployment practices
- Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably AWS
- Strong understanding of Git-based version control systems and development workflows
- Experience with repositories and delivery platforms such as GitHub, Bitbucket, Bamboo, or similar tools
- Familiarity with application monitoring, logging, observability, and alerting solutions
- Understanding of software engineering best practices, testing strategies, and code quality standards
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability and willingness to work across both software development and DevOps responsibilities
Plus if you have:
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, etc.)
- Experience implementing observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, or Datadog
- Experience working in financial services, capital markets, or electronic trading environments
- Exposure to high-availability and low-latency distributed systems
