About Assignar
Assignar is a mission-led construction tech company. Sean McCreanor (co-founder and CEO) started Assignar in 2014 after running his own construction business and experiencing first-hand the painful lack of tools available to contractors. Today, Assignar works with hundreds of customers, from multi-billion-dollar contractors to specialist crews.
Assignar Pay is the layer between the field and finance for self-perform contractors: EBA payroll, Schedule of Values, Schedule of Rates, invoicing, and job costing, connected to the crews and equipment on the job. Actuals against budget, job by job, as the work happens.
Our values
- Do what's right. Even when it's hard or uncomfortable.
- Customers are our why. They're our blueprint for success.
- Grow with purpose. Intentionally, collectively, and for our industry.
- One team. We win as a team, learn as a team.
The role
You'll partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Implementation to design, prove, and deliver Assignar Pay for contractors, from first discovery through post-sale expansion. You'll be as sharp with a payroll team on a job site as you are running a demo with a CFO.
You'll join a small, senior Solutions Engineering function with a very high bar. Our Senior SE has built the muscle this role grows into: SOR builds, Pay parallel-run methodology, invoicing redesigns, ERP integration playbooks (Xero, Acumatica). You'll partner with them, learn from them, and take on complex Pay builds of your own from early in the ramp.
What you'll do
- Discovery + scoping. Run Pay discovery with CFO, GM, owner, payroll and IT stakeholders. Own technical scoping of every Pay deal: Schedule of Rates, invoicing structure, cost-code hierarchy, pay-rule + EBA interpretation, security-review response.
- Pay builds. Deliver Pay build work end-to-end: config, testing, dry runs, first payrun. Lead ERP reshape conversations with the customer's finance team.
- Project leadership. Lead Pay implementation kickoffs, share the project plan with the customer + team, and guide the Implementation team through delivery. Hold accountability across squads and keep customer commitments on track.
- Customer time in the field. Travel 25-40% to visit customers, walk job sites, run onsite workshops, and present to leadership. Deliver Pay training sessions at go-live and beyond.
- Business cases + expansion. Build ROI cases from discovery data + usage signal. Audit customer accounts for Pay expansion opportunities. Deliver clean handover to Implementation + CS with a full architecture + config pack.
- AI orchestration. Use AI tools to accelerate every part of your work: build scaffolds, security-review drafts, business-case calculators, workflow maps. Verify AI output before it reaches a customer. Contribute reusable prompts + skills back to the team library.
What we're looking for
- Proven Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer or similar technical consultative experience, ideally in construction, ERP, payroll, or finance software.
- Strong understanding of construction finance: EBA + award interpretation, payroll, Schedule of Rates, Schedule of Values, invoicing, job costing.
- Credible with CFOs, payroll leaders and executive stakeholders. Comfortable running finance-led conversations, not only product-led ones.
- Track record of in-person discovery + solution design workshops with technical and executive audiences.
- Comfortable running cross-functional delivery: kickoffs, project plans, weekly stand-ups, escalations. Holds accountability without formal authority.
- Familiarity with the ERPs contractors use (Xero, MYOB, NetSuite, Acumatica and similar) and the reshape work that connects them to a payroll + invoicing platform.
- Fluency with AI orchestration tools. Comfortable directing AI agents + verifying output.
- A love for travel and meeting customers on their turf.
Your team
Day-to-day partners: AEs (new business + expansion), CSMs (existing customer expansion), Implementation (build handovers), Product + Engineering (feedback loop from the field), our Forward Deployed Engineer (customer-blocking builds), and Finance (Pay + ERP reshape).
