What they look for
Requirements
The role requires extensive experience in setting DevOps strategies at an organizational scale and deep technical expertise in cloud platforms and CI/CD. You must possess strong stakeholder management skills and a proven ability to lead through influence across large engineering teams.
Benefits
Full description
As Head of DevOps, you'll shape Eurowag's engineering platform strategy and define how software is built, delivered, and operated across the company. Leading our DevOps Enablement function, you'll drive standards, tooling, release engineering, and our adoption of AI-enabled development, empowering 50+ teams and 200+ engineers to deliver faster, smarter, and at scale.
- Proven experience setting and executing a DevOps or platform engineering strategy at organisational scale, ideally across 100+ engineers or dozens of teams.
- Experience driving standardisation initiatives — such as multi-cloud, hybrid, or open-standards adoption — across a large, established engineering organisation.
- Deep, credible technical grounding in modern cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, or GCP), Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, container orchestration, and observability.
- Hands-on experience designing release train models and rolling out feature flagging / progressive delivery at scale.
- Working knowledge of what makes software engineering organisations ready for agentic AI — source control discipline, CI/CD reliability, test trust, and engineering observability — and how to build these without slowing teams down.
- A track record of driving standards and best practice adoption through influence and enablement across teams that do not report to you, not through top-down mandate alone.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, able to operate credibly with the SVP of Technology, CTO/Enterprise Architecture, CISO/Security, and business stakeholders.
- Experience building and leading platform, SRE, or DevOps teams, including hiring and developing senior technical talent.
DevOps & Platform Strategy• Own and continuously evolve Eurowag's multi-year DevOps and platform engineering strategy, in partnership with the SVP of Technology, Enterprise Architecture, and Security.
- Define the target operating model for platform, enabling, and application teams, building on and evolving the current DevOps Enablement Team model (platform + enabling team hybrid).
- Set and communicate a clear technology roadmap that balances near-term delivery needs against the multi-year standardisation and de-risking agenda.
- Track and evaluate emerging DevOps, platform engineering, and SRE practices (internal developer platforms, GitOps, DevSecOps, FinOps, progressive delivery) and bring the right ones into Eurowag.
Standardisation & Platform Strategy• Lead the standardisation of tooling and platforms across the software delivery lifecycle, reducing fragmentation and unnecessary variance between teams.
- Define and enforce portable, well-governed standards for infrastructure as code, CI/CD, source control, observability, and identity, favouring open standards and interoperable tooling where it strengthens long-term flexibility.
- Own the evaluation of multi-cloud and hybrid options where they reduce concentration risk, improve resilience, or strengthen Eurowag's position, and make clear, evidence-based build-vs-buy and vendor decisions.
- Rationalise and consolidate the current tooling landscape into a coherent, well-governed platform.
- Define and drive adoption of shared standards, templates, and reference architectures (“blueprints”) so that every team builds on the same foundations rather than reinventing them.
Engineering Best Practices & Culture• Set and champion Eurowag-wide engineering standards: trunk-based development and short-lived branches, meaningful pull request review, deterministic and fast CI/CD, and trustworthy automated testing.
- Drive adoption of a “you build it, you run it” culture backed by strong platform guardrails, clear service ownership, and consistent SLOs.
- Lead by influence and example across ~50 application teams and 200+ engineers, coaching and enabling teams rather than working through mandate alone.
- Own engineering observability at organisational level: DORA-style delivery metrics (lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, recovery time) visible at team and portfolio level, not just anecdote.
- Build and retain a high-performing DevOps/platform team, including hiring, mentoring, and succession planning for key platform and SRE roles.
Release Engineering: Release Trains & Feature Flagging• Own the design and rollout of a modern release train model across Eurowag, replacing ad hoc and purely calendar-driven (e.g. monthly) release cycles with predictable, coordinated delivery cadences.
- Introduce and scale feature flagging and progressive delivery (canary releases, ring-based rollouts, kill switches) to decouple deployment from release and reduce the risk and blast radius of change.
- Define standards for release coordination, versioning, release notes, and cross-team change communication, revitalising the CI/CD initiative currently on hold.
- Ensure release processes support both centrally coordinated release trains and team-level continuous delivery where teams have earned that autonomy.
Enabling Eurowag's Agentic AI Journey• Act as the engineering sponsor for Eurowag's adoption of agentic AI in software development, working closely with the Data & AI organisation to translate the Foundational Engineering Hygiene thesis into practice.
- Own the four foundations that determine whether AI investment compounds value rather than amplifying dysfunction: disciplined source control and review, reliable and fast CI/CD, tests engineers genuinely trust, and engineering observability.
- Assess these foundations honestly across product lines to inform sequencing and investment decisions — recognising that a weak result is a sequencing signal, not a reason to pause AI adoption, and that coding agents themselves can help close hygiene gaps.
- Define the human-in-the-loop model for AI-generated code: tiered review requirements by risk, standards for trusting AI-authored tests, and guardrails that prevent AI-generated debt from accumulating at machine speed.
- Partner with Security, Data & AI, and Enterprise Architecture on governance for AI-assisted engineering, including per-engineer identity and attribution, cost visibility, and policy enforcement.
Governance, Risk & Compliance• Own DevOps-related governance and compliance posture in partnership with Security, IT, and Enterprise Architecture, including policy management, identity and access, and network and cost governance across cloud landing zones.
- Ensure platform and release standards meet regulatory, security, and audit requirements appropriate to a financial services and payments business.
