Reality Labs (RL) is Meta's innovation engine for next-generation AR/VR, AI, and wearable technologies. Our Audio team pioneers research and development at the intersection of sound, embedded systems, and human experience—enabling new ways for people to connect, communicate, and collaborate.

We are seeking a talented Research Engineer with expertise in embedded digital signal processing (DSP) to join our Reality Labs Audio team. You will contribute to an ambitious new project focused on AI wearables—advancing Meta's Superhuman Communication & Connection initiative. This role is ideal for engineers passionate about audio, embedded systems, and real-world impact.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize DSP algorithms for audio processing on embedded platforms
  • Develop firmware and software for ear buds, hearables, and hearing aid devices
  • Collaborate with research scientists to translate experimental algorithms into robust, real-time embedded solutions
  • Integrate DSP modules with hardware and software stacks for wearable audio devices
  • Conduct performance analysis, debugging, and validation of embedded audio systems
  • Support prototyping and field testing of new features and product concepts
  • Work cross-functionally with hardware, software, ML, and UX teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
  • Document engineering processes and contribute to best practices for embedded audio development

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in embedded DSP development for audio applications
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and real-time embedded programming
  • Experience with audio signal processing algorithms (e.g., filtering, noise reduction, speech enhancement)
  • Familiarity with embedded hardware platforms and development tools
  • Experience solving complex technical problems in cross-functional team settings, with evidence such as shipped products or published findings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with prototyping and testing audio hardware
  • Background in AR/VR, wearable technology, or human-computer interaction
  • Knowledge of Bluetooth audio protocols and low-power embedded design
  • Experience with ear buds, hearables, or hearing aid devices

$154,003/year to $217,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
