About the role

Own and develop a reusable, system-independent ontology, taxonomy, metadata model, and canonical graph schema, using AI tools to derive and validate models from complex data domains. Define governance and graph-loading principles, model SDLC traceability, and validate business and process models using real data and prototypes.

What they look for

Ontology Modeling Semantic Modeling Metadata Modeling Taxonomy Design AI Tooling Data Governance SAP ECC SAP S/4HANA SDLC Traceability Knowledge Graphs Neo4j Cypher Signavio BPMN Collibra Azure AI Search

Requirements

Requires 8+ years of relevant hands-on experience, strong ontology, semantic, information, or metadata modeling expertise, and a solid understanding of SDLC processes. Strong SAP ECC and S/4HANA domain knowledge is important; the role also calls for an AI-first, self-driven implementation approach, while Neo4j and Cypher are advantageous.

Full description

Dear Aspirant!

We empower our people to stay resilient and relevant in a constantly changing world. We’re looking for people who are always searching for creative ways to grow and learn. People who want to make a real impact, now and in the future. Does that sound like you? Then it seems like you’d make a great addition to our vibrant international team.

We are looking for: Lead Ontology Engineer

You own the meaning and structure of our Knowledge Base: the ontology, taxonomy, metadata model and canonical graph schema. The ontology is deliberately system-independent — today the primary domain is SAP; tomorrow it may be Salesforce or another source — so you model concepts, not one system. You are hands-on and AI-first: you do not handcraft the ontology, you build AI processes and tools that derive the schema from the data domain and let you evaluate that it is correct. You set the schema the pipeline team loads against, and you own graph load/retrieve questions at the model level.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Own the target ontology, taxonomy, metadata model and canonical graph schema — system-independent, reusable across domains.
  • Derive the schema from the data domain: build AI tooling to generate and validate it rather than hand-modelling everything and evaluate that the result is correct.
  • Provide the canonical schema the pipeline team loads against; decide what is loaded into Neo4j versus kept in the source, how it is linked, and how it is loaded and retrieved at the model level.
  • Define provenance, ownership, validity, versioning, classification and access-control principles (data-governance / catalogue thinking).
  • Model SDLC traceability for the current domain: requirement → fit-to-standard/gap → design → build → test → deploy → operate → support, and map source objects and processes into the model.
  • Deep-dive into unclear business or process demands, challenge assumptions, and validate models with real data and prototypes.

You’re excited to build on your existing expertise, including:

  • AI-first mindset : you build the ontology and its tooling with AI and evaluate correctness rather than handcrafting everything.
  • 8+ years of relevant hands-on experience — a super-senior engineer who can steer this topic in the right direction (depth and delivery matter more than years in any single tool).
  • Proven ontology / semantic / information / metadata modelling — canonical entities and relationships, taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, governance — and the ability to derive a model from a messy data domain.
  • Strong SDLC and process understanding (requirement → design → build → test → deploy → operate).
  • Subject-matter depth in our current domain: strong SAP (ECC & S/4HANA — objects, customizing, processes, transports) is important, as SAP is our primary domain today.
  • Senior, hands-on, self-driven individual contributor who implements and validates — not a design-and-handover profile
  • Nice to have• Neo4j / graph concepts & Cypher (load and retrieve) — a plus and learnable; curiosity plus an AI mindset beats deep-but-AI-averse.
  • Data catalogue / governance tooling (e.g. Collibra); process and architecture tooling (Signavio/BPMN, LeanIX); application inventories.
  • Neo4j & Cypher, ontology/metadata modelling, SAP ECC & S/4HANA, Signavio/BPMN, Collibra, Azure AI Search, embeddings, LangGraph, MCP & APIs.
  • How we work• AI-first, hands-on, outcome-oriented. We implement — no PowerPoint-only architects. Problem-first and pragmatic: we challenge vague requirements and unnecessary complexity, then build a workable alternative.
