Job Description:

The Engineering Manager leads a team of engineers and technical specialists within Trystar's Engineering function, which spans four subfunctions: Research, Development and Engineering (RDE); Engineer to Order (ETO); Compliance Engineering; and Applications Engineering. Depending on assignment, the team may work in disciplines such as mechanical design, analysis and thermal; electrical power systems and power electronics design, integration and controls; electronics; systems engineering; embedded and application software; design and drafting; test and validation; certification and compliance; quality and reliability; or design automation and product lifecycle management. This role is accountable for the technical quality, schedule, and completeness of the team's engineering work, from requirements through design release and verification, and partners with operations, quality, supply chain, product management, and commercial teams to deliver products that perform, comply, and reach customers on time. As a first-line people leader, the Engineering Manager is accountable for the performance, development, and engagement of the team, including hiring, goal setting, regular feedback, and performance reviews, and makes decisions within the scope of the team.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the day-to-day execution of engineering work in your team's disciplines, ensuring designs, analyses, and technical deliverables meet requirements, engineering standards, quality expectations, and project commitments.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop the engineers and technical specialists on your team, including hiring, onboarding, goal setting, regular feedback, and performance reviews, while fostering collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and alignment with company values.
  • Partner with project engineers, the other Engineering subfunctions, and the operations, quality, supply chain, and product management teams to resolve technical issues, close design gaps, and keep projects moving through their review and approval stages.
  • Support new product introduction, custom and configured orders, and product changes by coordinating engineering tasks, deliverables, design reviews, timelines, documentation, and resources.
  • Identify and implement improvements to engineering processes, design standards, design reuse, and engineering tools that improve design quality, cycle time, and right-first-time performance.
  • Monitor engineering performance measures such as schedule adherence, design quality, engineering change volume, and rework, analyze the data, and recommend actions that improve throughput, quality, and cost.
  • Provide technical guidance on design methods, engineering analysis, drawing and model standards, design documentation, and engineering change control.
  • Coordinate engineering work across projects and orders, track milestones and deliverables, communicate status, and escalate risks or resource needs as appropriate.
  • Support the adoption of engineering tools and technologies, including mechanical and electrical CAD, simulation and analysis tools, design automation, and product lifecycle management systems, which improve engineering efficiency and design integrity.
  • Promote a safe, quality-focused, and continuous improvement-oriented engineering environment, including designing for safety, compliance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Systems, Software, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Typically requires 5 or more years of engineering experience in design, analysis, controls, test, compliance, or a related engineering discipline, including 0-3 years of formal supervisory or team leadership experience. This is a first-line leadership role, and engineers ready to step into their first people-management position are encouraged to apply.
  • Working knowledge of engineering design and analysis methods, drawing and documentation standards, design reviews, verification and validation, and engineering change control.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturability, design for quality and reliability, design for compliance, and structured problem-solving including design FMEA and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and support sound technical decision-making across competing requirements such as performance, cost, schedule, compliance, and risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects, communicate priorities, and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to support and develop team members while promoting accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with power distribution or power conversion equipment, electro-mechanical assemblies, electronic products, or other engineered-to-order products preferred.
  • Exposure to mechanical or electrical CAD, simulation and analysis tools, design automation, or product lifecycle management systems preferred.
  • Passion for Trystar, its culture, and its strategic vision.

Skills:
