Job DetailsJob Location: Saginaw - Saginaw, MI 48601Objective:

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Network Administrator to manage, secure, and maintain our IT infrastructure. In this role, you will oversee our local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), manage physical and virtual servers, and ensure maximum system uptime and security.

The Network Administrator is responsible for the design, planning, operation, security, optimization, troubleshooting and day-to-day management of the organization's network, servers, switches, network-connected devices, and all data communications. This position works closely with the MSP, tier I and tier 2 (Help Desk) to give those positions assistance in fulfilling their respective responsibilities to keep all computer operations functioning. Some of the duties of the Network Administrator include installing, configuring and upgrading network infrastructure, diagnosing and troubleshooting both common and unusual network problems, performing preventive maintenance on the network, along with monitoring performance on both the local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN).  This position is also responsible for the installation, operations, upgrade, performance, and monitoring of the network and application servers – as well as security camera and building security systems.  The Network Administrator works fluidly across the major infrastructure elements of networking, security, storage, virtualization, and servers to deliver new availability, capacity, services and safeguards. 

Essential Duties:

Installs, configures, tests, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots the internal computer network.   Troubleshoots network connectivity problems, including monitoring the network and servers for problems, diagnosing problems, and taking the appropriate corrective measures to ensure an expedient resolution. Defines and implements network disaster recovery and hardware, software and information protection and file integrity.  Ensures network security by overseeing proper user accessibility and being able to reasonably guard against the most complex threats to security that will face the County network.   Receives and responds to incoming calls, e-mails, or pages regarding network operations and/or problems.  Installs, administers, supports, and maintains server hardware, peripherals, software, and operating systems.  Maintains, prepares, and upholds processes for reporting, statistically monitoring, and logging network performance.   Assists in planning for the future strategy of networks and servers, and providing budgetary information as needed.   Conducts research on various networks and products of networking in support of its development and procurement efforts. Evaluates and recommends network and server hardware and software for purchase. Develops and maintains installation, operational, and configuration procedures. Contributes to and maintains system standards.  Provides tier III support for help desk tickets and projects. Performs Project Manager responsibilities as needed.  Mentors staff as needed. Identity & Access Management: Administer user accounts, permissions, and group policies using Active Directory or cloud identity providers. Data Protection: Implement and manage robust backup schedules, disaster recovery plans, and failover systems. Security & Compliance: Apply security patches, manage antivirus systems, and monitor network logs for potential vulnerabilities or breaches. Technical Support: Serve as the escalation point for complex technical issues that cannot be resolved by the standard helpdesk. May need to guide and assist level one with issues.

Knowledge, Skill and Competency Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Experience: 3+ years of experience in system administration, network engineering, or a similar IT infrastructure role. Project management skills. Certifications (Preferred): CompTIA Network+/Security+, Cisco CCNA, or Microsoft Certified Associate.

Technical Skills:

Deep understanding of network segmentation, firewalls, and secure VPNs. Current terminology and principles of networking and IT. Experience managing infrastructure for complex systems with Wireless access points. Proficient with DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and TCP/IP networking protocols. Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure). SSL certs and domain name registry Familiarity with storage solutions (NAS/SAN) and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automation. Experience with security software, monitoring, and reporting.

Physical Factors: Most work is done in a typical office setting, but with daily exposure in all other department areas. Suitable dexterity to operate standard office equipment. Capability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift a minimum of 15 pounds.
