Key job responsibilities Collaborate and communicate effectively with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to design, build, and operate innovative products and services that delight our customers, while participating in technical discussions to drive solutions forward.

Design and develop scalable solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices in a large distributed computing environment.

Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation.

Build and maintain resilient distributed systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, and cost-effective.

Leverage and contribute to the development of GenAI and AI-powered tools to enhance development productivity while staying current with emerging technologies.

Write clean, maintainable code following best practices and design patterns.

Work in an agile environment practicing CI/CD principles while participating in operational responsibilities including on-call duties.

Demonstrate operational excellence through monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues.

A day in the life As a Specialised Software Development Engineer, you'll immerse yourself in challenging projects that push the boundaries of technology. Your day might involve learning from and collaborating with ML scientists to implement new model architectures, optimizing training pipelines for better efficiency, analyzing model performance metrics, and participating in design reviews for new ML features. You'll work closely with product managers to understand requirements and with senior engineers to ensure your solutions meet Amazon's high standards for reliability and scalability.

About the team The Video Streaming Quality (VQ) team at Ring focuses on improving the end-to-end video and audio streaming experience across millions of smart home devices. Our work spans from optimizing quality & observability, encoding optimization and research of next gen codecs as well as advanced streaming architecture. Our tech stack includes ML/AI frameworks for real-time inference on device and cloud, video codecs (H.264, H.265, AV1), WebRTC streaming, FFmpeg-based transcoding pipelines, and AWS cloud infrastructure. New hires would have the opportunity to work on impactful AI/ML research and engineering projects within a growing, collaborative team that is part of Amazon's expanding Madrid Tech Hub.

Basic Qualifications: - Experience with video and image processing and compression algorithms and standards, computer vision and/or machine learning - Experience working with or having knowledge of cloud computing and existing cloud technologies - Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, C++ - Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related STEM fields - Are enrolled in or have completed a Bachelor's degree or above in a relevant field - Experience with data structure implementation, basic algorithm development, and/or object-oriented design principles - - Expected graduation by November 2026 2026, OR graduated within the last 24 months

Preferred Qualifications: - Experience from previous technical internship(s) or demonstrated project experience - Experience with video encoding and streaming media standards - Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities - Experience in English-language communication skills, both written and verbal - Experience implementing innovative learning and development solutions in a fast-paced global environment - Knowledge of software development lifecycle, including design, development, test, build, deployment processes and timelines - Experience with on-device embedded/resource-constrained hardware - Experience with one or more of the following: AI tools for development productivity, Cloud platforms (preferably AWS), Database systems (SQL and NoSQL), Contributing to open-source projects, Version control systems, Debugging and troubleshooting complex systems
