About the Role
We're looking for an experienced software engineer to design and build security applications and platform capabilities for iOS and macOS. You will work close to the Apple operating system and security stack, developing capabilities that protect devices, applications, identities, and network communications in enterprise environments.
The role involves building secure networking, endpoint security, device-management, and system-level capabilities using Apple frameworks and APIs. You will solve complex problems involving networking, process and system behavior, authentication, certificates, cryptography, and enterprise device management.
This role is ideal for an engineer with strong Apple platform fundamentals, systems programming, networking, and security expertise who enjoys understanding how applications interact with the operating system and how security controls can be implemented without compromising performance, reliability, or user experience.
What You'll Do
* Design, develop, and maintain security applications and system-level components for macOS and iOS using Swift and Objective-C.
* Build secure networking capabilities including **VPN, traffic tunneling, DNS security, filtering, and network protection** using Apple's NetworkExtension framework.
* Develop capabilities using relevant Apple technologies such as DNS Proxy Provider, Content Filter, System Extensions, and Endpoint Security APIs, where applicable.
* Design secure communication between applications, extensions, backend services, and enterprise infrastructure.
* Implement security capabilities involving authentication, authorization, certificates, cryptography, Keychain, secure credential storage, and device identity.
* Diagnose complex issues involving network connectivity, routing, DNS, application behavior, OS interactions, security controls, performance, and resource utilization.
* Understand and work within Apple's application sandboxing, entitlements, code signing, notarization, privacy, and security models.
* Integrate applications and security configurations with MDM/UEM platforms, including managed applications, VPN configurations, certificates, device policies, and security profiles.
* Design software that is secure, resilient, performant, observable, and maintainable across supported versions of macOS and iOS.
* Perform design and code reviews with particular emphasis on security, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
* Investigate security vulnerabilities and contribute to threat modeling, secure design, vulnerability remediation, and security hardening.
* Collaborate with Product, Security, QA, Backend, SRE, and other engineering teams to deliver production-ready security capabilities.
Required Qualifications
* Strong software development experience on macOS and/or iOS, with proficiency in Swift and Objective-C.
* Strong understanding of Apple platform architecture, application lifecycle, sandboxing, entitlements, code signing, and security models.
* Experience developing applications or system components using Apple security and networking frameworks.
* Strong experience with NetworkExtension and technologies such as DNS Proxy, Content Filter, or related networking extensions.
* Strong understanding of network programming and network security, including TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, TLS/HTTPS, routing, proxies.
* Understanding of authentication, certificates, PKI, encryption, key management, and secure credential storage.
* Experience troubleshooting complex problems across application, operating system, and network layers.
* Experience with MDM/UEM-managed Apple devices, including managed applications, configuration profiles, certificates, VPN configurations, and device security policies.
* Strong knowledge of concurrency, memory management, IPC, multithreading, and performance optimization on Apple platforms.
* Strong debugging skills using tools such as Xcode, LLDB, Instruments, Console, packet captures, and network diagnostic tools.
* Strong understanding of secure software development practices, including threat modeling, secure coding, vulnerability management, and security-focused code reviews.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience developing enterprise security, endpoint security, Zero Trust, VPN, Secure Access, EDR, DLP, or network security products.
* Experience with macOS System Extensions and Endpoint Security framework.
* Experience with Keychain Services, Security framework, CryptoKit, certificate lifecycle management, and PKI.
* Experience building security software operating across **application, network, and operating-system boundaries**.
* Understanding of common security threats, attack techniques, and defensive controls on Apple platforms.
* Experience optimizing CPU, memory, battery, startup time, and network performance for continuously running security applications.
* Experience developing and supporting security products deployed at enterprise scale across large fleets of Apple devices.
