Full description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior/Staff Software Engineer, DevOps based in United States.

This is a senior-level software engineering role focused on building the infrastructure that enables reliable software delivery across complex edge environments. You will take significant ownership of automated testing infrastructure for remotely accessible and heterogeneous hardware. The role spans CI/CD, developer infrastructure, platform reliability, build and release systems, and operational tooling. You will work closely with product engineering and QA teams to improve developer productivity, software quality, and system reliability. The position offers substantial autonomy, with the opportunity to define technical approaches and lead high-impact initiatives from ambiguity through production operation. You’ll join a small, fully remote engineering team where ownership, technical judgment, and fast execution are highly valued. This opportunity is particularly well suited to an experienced infrastructure engineer who enjoys solving difficult problems at the intersection of software, hardware, and distributed systems.

  • Build and expand automated testing infrastructure for software deployed across diverse and remotely accessible edge hardware.
  • Develop systems that make automated tests reproducible, reliable, observable, and easy to diagnose when failures occur.
  • Enable product engineering and QA teams to contribute automated tests while maintaining a robust platform owned and evolved by the DevOps function.
  • Improve CI/CD pipelines, build and release systems, deployment automation, developer tooling, and overall platform reliability.
  • Identify high-leverage engineering opportunities, evaluate technical tradeoffs, define solutions, and lead major initiatives from early ambiguity through successful production operation.
  • Write production software and automation that improves engineering velocity, system reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to understand infrastructure needs and continuously improve developer productivity and software quality.
  • Contribute to a culture of strong engineering practices, operational ownership, continuous learning, and accountability.
  • Help evolve infrastructure capabilities supporting software that operates in complex, distributed, and edge environments.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated Senior- or Staff-level impact designing, building, and owning software systems, with emphasis on scope, technical ownership, and leadership rather than a specific number of years.
  • Strong software development skills in at least one production programming language, with the ability to work effectively across different languages and technology stacks.

  • Professional experience in one or more infrastructure-focused disciplines, including Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, CI/CD, Build & Release, Developer Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, or Test Infrastructure.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Linux, containers, networking, software delivery pipelines, and production troubleshooting.
  • Practical experience designing, implementing, or supporting automated testing at the unit, integration, end-to-end, or system level.
  • Proven ability to navigate ambiguous technical problems, make sound engineering tradeoffs, and deliver meaningful outcomes with limited oversight.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and QA teams.
  • A high degree of ownership, initiative, accountability, and comfort operating in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, remote device fleet orchestration, edge or embedded systems, performance testing, chaos engineering, platform observability, or large-scale distributed systems is a strong advantage.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Benefits

  • $240,000–$280,000 annual base salary, with final compensation based on experience, technical expertise, demonstrated impact, geographic location, and overall fit.
  • Eligibility for equity participation.
  • Comprehensive employee benefits package.
  • Fully remote work environment within the United States.
  • High degree of autonomy and ownership over technically significant initiatives.
  • Opportunity to work on challenging infrastructure problems involving edge computing, automated testing, distributed systems, and developer platforms.
  • Small, collaborative engineering environment built around trust, accountability, and open communication.
  • Opportunity to influence technical direction and build systems that directly support mission-critical operations.
  • Culture that encourages initiative, rapid learning, continuous improvement, and solving difficult engineering problems.
