Overview of the Role:

Job Overview:

The Design & Research teams play a vital role in Coursera's success by gathering learner and educator insights and translating them into recommendations that help Coursera achieve a seamless experience across its platform. As a Senior Product Designer, you will own the design of established features within a product area, working independently while collaborating closely with cross-functional partners. The experience of learning and transformation is inherently challenging — your work will be to create simplicity from complexity, translating research insights and business needs into elegant, well-crafted design solutions. Our goal is to make education accessible to all, and we need talented designers like you to help realize this vision.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver clarity on direction, scope, and impact for individual projects, translating research insights and high-level concepts into workflows, visual design, and detailed interactions.
  • Convey a strategic perspective with conviction, informed by business and market insights, and take ownership of parts of a larger strategic initiative.
  • Break down and sequence work into executable deliverables, planning for iteration and continuous improvement in an agile fashion.
  • Create innovative, systematic design solutions that meet high standards of usability and aesthetics, enabling efficiency, reuse, and scale across the product.
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, researchers, and data scientists to bring products from initial definition through shipping and beyond.
  • Combine insights from multiple sources into cohesive design recommendations, and use data to frame hypotheses, success metrics, and guardrails that inform design decisions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of experience as a UX or Product Designer, with a portfolio demonstrating ownership of design work across the full product lifecycle.
  • Experience with core UX methods — including user research, synthesizing insights, creating user flows, defining information architecture, and producing wireframes and prototypes.
  • Experience with interaction and visual design, including working within and contributing to existing design systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to design responsive, mobile-first experiences informed by user research and data insights.Proficiency in design and collaboration tools such as Figma and FigJam.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate design rationale and influence cross-functional stakeholders, including PMs, engineers, and researchers.Incorporates AI into the design process, using tools like Claude Code alongside Figma to speed up prototyping, explore more concepts faster, and iterate on ideas in new ways.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing AI-driven products, including prompt-based interactions and best practices for human-AI collaboration.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring less-experienced designers on design thinking and craft best practices.
  • Passion for education, learning transformation, and Coursera's mission to make world-class learning accessible to everyone.

This role is only available for hire in Canada.

Coursera offers competitive pay and fair compensation practices across all regions. Job titles may span multiple career levels, and the targeted hiring base salary range for this role in Canada is $124,000 - $155,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education, transferable skills, business needs, and location. This range may be adjusted over time and may include eligibility for variable pay, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
