Department Overview
Motorola Solutions’ Video Division is defining the future of the security industry through innovative end-to-end solutions. We aren't just adding AI features to our products—we are pioneering an AI-First software engineering culture. From advanced, award-winning video analytics like Appearance Search and Visual Alerts, we architect our systems from the ground up to maximize the power of Artificial Intelligence. We are transforming the surveillance landscape, and our team is leading the charge by integrating intelligent, data-driven capabilities into the very fabric of our software ecosystem. Job Description
We're looking for a Senior Software Architect to lead the technical direction of our video management system (VMS) as we expand AI capabilities across the platform. You'll design how AI integrates into our cloud and on-premise deployments at scale—defining architecture, making trade-offs, and working hands-on with engineering teams to solve hard distributed systems problems.
This is a hybrid strategic and hands-on role. You'll set technical direction and evaluate new technologies while also doing code reviews, proof-of-concepts, and debugging production issues. You'll report directly to the Senior Director of Engineering and work closely with product, security, and engineering leadership across our division.
The right person has built large-scale systems in production, has experience integrating AI services into real-world applications, and knows when to advocate for doing things right versus shipping something that works. You should be comfortable both at a whiteboard and in an IDE.
This position is based in Vancouver, BC, and the candidate must reside in the Greater Vancouver area, as you will be required to go into the office on a hybrid work schedule. Join a close-knit community where you can explore your curiosities, shape your career, and maximize your impact.
What You'll Do:
Define technical direction
- Own the architectural roadmap for our VMS platform as we integrate AI capabilities
- Translate business requirements into scalable system designs
- Evaluate technical trade-offs and long-term risks with product, security, and engineering leadership
Build and maintain systems
- Design and implement solutions for large-scale codebases across backend and client
- Own non-functional requirements: scalability, high availability, low-latency video delivery
- Establish observability frameworks (metrics, logs, distributed tracing) to turn telemetry into actionable data
Lead and mentor
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers across the division
- Drive engineering standards and quality through code reviews and architectural decisions
- Build collaborative relationships with developers and technical leadership
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Extensive experience building distributed systems in C++ or C#
- Experience architecting modern client applications (React, TypeScript, or similar frameworks)
- Track record of shipping large-scale systems to production
- Experience integrating AI services or APIs into production applications
- Strong understanding of microservices, real-time data streaming, and database design
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Nice to have:
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation
- Familiarity with Postgres or other relational databases
- Experience with modern languages like Rust or .NET frameworks
- Background in video streaming, media processing, or security/surveillance systems
Target Base Salary Range: 200,000 - 250,000 CAD
Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
