Requirements

About the Role

Join an early-stage team building AI-powered software for insurance claims operations. As the first product designer, you will shape the user experience across workflows used by claims professionals and their leaders, working closely with product and engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Own end-to-end UX across claims workspaces, dashboards, and other customer-facing product experiences.
  • Use product analytics, behavioral data, heat maps, user interviews, and direct observation to identify and prioritize improvements.
  • Partner with product leadership and engineering to turn customer problems into clear workflows and implementation-ready designs.
  • Design interactions that help users understand AI agent actions, sources, reasoning, and uncertainty, and review or intervene when needed.
  • Help evolve an early interface into an enterprise-ready product, guiding work from discovery through delivery.
  • Establish design principles and a design system, prototype with AI-assisted tools, and measure whether changes make tasks easier to complete.

What We're Looking For

  • Five to eight years of product design experience in technology companies, with consistent tenures and a track record of simplifying complex workflows.
  • Early-stage startup experience as a founding designer or the first design hire in a function.
  • UX-first, data-informed practice combining user research with behavioral analytics and product instrumentation.
  • Experience prototyping with AI coding tools and designing AI or human-in-the-loop experiences.
  • Background in insurance, claims, healthcare, or another compliance-heavy operational field is a plus.
  • Product design experience beyond visual design alone. This role does not require frontend development.
  • U.S. work authorization is required. Existing visa transfers may be considered; new visa sponsorship is not available.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $170,000 to $220,000 annually.

Location

On-site, five days per week in New York, New York.
