Summary
The Junior Snowflake DBA will support the administration, performance, security, monitoring, and day-to-day operation of enterprise Snowflake environments. The role is suited for a database professional with 2-3 years of relevant experience who can work with data engineering, BI, analytics, security, and cloud teams to maintain a reliable, secure, and cost-efficient Snowflake platform.
Responsibilities
- Support administration of Snowflake development, test, and production environments.
- Create and maintain users, roles, warehouses, databases, schemas, and access privileges.
- Implement and support role-based access control (RBAC) and least-privilege security practices.
- Monitor warehouse utilization, query performance, storage, concurrency, and platform health.
- Assist with query tuning, performance troubleshooting, and warehouse sizing recommendations.
- Monitor Snowflake credit consumption and support cost-optimization and resource-monitoring activities.
- Support data loading, unloading, stages, file formats, Snowpipe, tasks, streams, and scheduled processes.
- Assist with cloning, Time Travel, Fail-safe concepts, backup/recovery procedures, and environment refreshes.
- Troubleshoot failed jobs, connectivity issues, access problems, data-loading errors, and performance incidents.
- Support integrations with ETL/ELT, BI, cloud storage, and data engineering platforms.
- Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, access records, configuration standards, and change history.
- Participate in incident, change, release, and problem-management processes.
- Work with senior Snowflake administrators and architects on upgrades, new capabilities, and platform improvements.
Required Qualifications
Skill Area
Expected Capability
Snowflake Platform
Hands-on knowledge of databases, schemas, tables, views, stages, virtual warehouses, resource monitors, and Snowflake administration.
SQL
Strong SQL skills, including joins, CTEs, window functions, query plans, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
Security & Access
Understanding of Snowflake RBAC, users, roles, grants, object ownership, network/security concepts, and least-privilege access.
Performance & Cost
Experience monitoring query history, warehouse performance, credit consumption, caching, clustering concepts, and workload optimization.
Data Loading
Knowledge of COPY INTO, internal/external stages, file formats, Snowpipe, streams, tasks, and common ingestion patterns.
Data Protection
Working understanding of Time Travel, zero-copy cloning, Fail-safe, secure data sharing, and recovery concepts.
Cloud Fundamentals
Exposure to AWS storage, networking, identity, and security concepts used with Snowflake.
Integration
Familiarity with ETL/ELT and BI tools such as dbt ,Azure Data Factory, Power BI, or Tableau.
Scripting & Automation
Basic Python, PowerShell, Bash, or Snowflake scripting experience for operational automation is preferred.
Monitoring
Ability to use Snowflake ACCOUNT_USAGE / INFORMATION_SCHEMA views and monitoring dashboards to identify operational issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data/Analytics, or a related discipline.
- 2-3 years of database, cloud data platform, or data engineering experience, with practical Snowflake exposure.
- SnowPro Core certification is preferred or willingness to obtain it.
- Hands-on experience administering Snowflake Cortex AI, including Cortex Search, Cortex Analyst, Cortex Agents, LLM functions, security/RBAC, monitoring, and cost/resource optimization.
- Support the deployment and operationalization of AI/GenAI workloads on Snowflake, including environment configuration, governance, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and integration with enterprise data pipelines.
- Experience working in regulated industries such as banking, credit unions, financial services, healthcare, or insurance is a plus.
- Familiarity with ITIL-style incident/change management and ticketing tools such as ServiceNow or Jira is beneficial.
- Exposure to CI/CD, Git, infrastructure-as-code, or DevOps practices for data platforms is desirable.
