We are seeking a strong, experienced Mechanical Engineer (AEC/MEP) with leadership capability to lead our Washington, DC area Mechanical Engineering Departments and support the function enterprise-wide. The role will be entrepreneurial, intrapreneurial, and work on overall organizational advancements, bot operationally and technically.

Primary responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer Department Manager will include:

  • Work on implementing operational and technical processes and expertise.
  • Review and evaluate forward-thinking system design to continue to develop best-in-class designs.
  • Serve as an engineering leader and technical expert with the ability to answer questions and resolve issues brought forth by the engineering staff.
  • Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for engineering staff to use and abide by.
  • Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects.
  • Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by engineering staff.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other managers, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Prepare and deliver various engineering-related presentations, both internally and externally.
  • Perform department management activities including recruitment, hiring, coaching, and leadership.

Requirements for this position include:

  • 10 plus years’ experience in mechanical design (MEP)
  • Team supervisory experience is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree mechanical engineering and PE license required
  • Skilled technical writer
  • Expert knowledge of building codes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment with the ability to work individually or as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Sustainable certification programs
  • Strong software skills including Revit
