DevOps Engineer

Description

Markon is seeking a DevOps Engineer to support an Intelligence Community client in McLean, Virginia. This position will support the development, integration, deployment, and sustainment of mission-focused software across Sponsor networks and cloud environments. The DevOps Engineer will work across software development and infrastructure environments, leveraging Linux, scripting, virtualization, cloud technologies, secure data transfer, and DevOps practices to deliver reliable and maintainable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify application source code in response to new requirements and requests for change.

• Provide application bug fixes, enhancements, and Graphical User Interface (GUI) improvements to meet operational requirements.

• Develop and deploy software, including within cloud environments.

• Integrate externally developed code into core software libraries.

• Install and configure application software.

• Evaluate third-party vendors and software partners.

• Design and develop Representational State Transfer (REST) APIs.

• Maintain software library designs, including module APIs, code organization, and compliance with established coding standards.

• Promote modular software design, reuse of common code, clean interfaces between subsystems, and overall design integrity.

• Coordinate with configuration management personnel to integrate externally developed software into core software libraries.

• Develop software for deployment across Sponsor networks.

• Support software libraries and applications involving audio/video, image-processing algorithms, operating systems and file systems, and device drivers.

• Assist the Sponsor in developing standards, methods, and procedures for determining product quality and release readiness.

• Conduct testing throughout all levels of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including regression testing.

• Adhere to established software testing and quality procedures.

• Prepare required program-level and user-level technical documentation.

• Communicate technical concepts and solutions effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required:

• An Active TS/SCI with a FS Polygraph is required to be considered.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or another related scientific or technical discipline.

• Minimum of 2 years of professional software engineering experience, or a related master’s degree.

• Demonstrated on-the-job experience working with Linux operating systems and Bash shell scripting.

• Software development experience using Python, Java, or Ruby.

• Experience integrating Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) technologies.

• Experience working within virtualized infrastructure environments, such as VMware or AWS.

• Experience with customer DevOps tools such as GitHub.

• Experience working with PKI certificates, encryption protocols, and SSL/TLS.

• Experience with data exchange formats, including JSON and XML.

• Experience preparing required documentation, including program-level and user-level documentation.

• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders and work collaboratively within a team.

• Good understanding of data-transfer protocols, including FTP, SFTP, TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS, and QUIC.

Desired:

• Demonstrated on-the-job experience with configuration management technologies such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.

• Experience with deployment and automation tools such as Jenkins.

• Experience implementing external authentication methods such as LDAP and Active Directory.

• Experience implementing and managing data encryption within secure environments.

• Additional hands-on experience with Linux and Bash shell scripting.

• Experience with JIRA.

• Experience configuring and developing solutions within AWS environments.

• Experience working with SQL.

• Experience using Agile software development methodologies.

• Experience participating on an Agile software development or systems engineering team.

Salary Range

USD $140,000.00 - USD $170,000.00 /Yr.The Markon pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
