Job summary
We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst to join the Business Architecture & Integration team within Springer Nature Technology's Portfolio & Governance Office.
The role operates at the intersection of business strategy, technology and organisational change. You will drive discovery activity, and support investment decision-making, portfolio management and strategic initiatives by helping stakeholders understand problems, evaluate opportunities and make informed decisions.
You will work across complex and often ambiguous environments, collaborating with business leaders, technology teams, Enterprise Architecture, Customer Experience and operational stakeholders. As a senior practitioner, you will influence stakeholders, facilitate effective decision-making, mentor colleagues and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Business Analysis discipline.
Key Responsibilities
STRATEGIC BUSINESS ANALYSIS AND DISCOVERY
- Lead discovery and business analysis activities across strategic, transformational and portfolio initiatives.
- Frame complex business challenges by identifying underlying causes, defining desired business outcomes and establishing a clear change vision before evaluating solution options.
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable recommendations, opportunities and initiatives.
- Apply systems thinking to understand organisational, process, data and technology interdependencies.
- Analyse risks, dependencies, costs, benefits and trade-offs to support effective decision-making.
- Document current-state processes and models to identify inefficiencies or gaps.
- Rapidly develop understanding of new business domains, operating models and technology landscapes.
- Ensure recommendations and initiatives are aligned to measurable business, customer and employee outcomes.
Portfolio, demand AND investment management:
- Facilitate discovery, assessment and prioritisation activities that result in clearly defined initiatives and investment cases.
- Develop and present investment cases articulating strategic alignment, expected value, risks, costs and benefits.
- Support portfolio decision-making through analysis of dependencies, constraints, risks and opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to optimise portfolio investments through technology rationalisation and simplification.
- Guide business owners through governance and investment processes for business-led technology initiatives.
- Ensure discovery outputs and recommendations consider relevant governance, architecture, security, data protection, accessibility and operational standards.
- Ensure proposed initiatives define future process ownership, operational responsibilities, governance expectations and measures of success before investment decisions are made.
- Ensure expected benefits and success measures are defined and traceable throughout initiative lifecycles.
Technology Strategy, solution evaluation, and MergeRS & Acquisitions
- Partner with technical subject matter experts to explore, assess and evaluate solution options.
- Support vendor assessments through structured analysis of costs, benefits, risks and capabilities.
- Lead or support technology due diligence activities for mergers, acquisitions and strategic investments.
- Assess application landscapes, technology capabilities, risks and integration considerations across target organisations.
- Support integration planning and value realisation activities following acquisitions.
Stakeholder engagement AND influence
- Build trusted relationships across business and technology functions.
- Facilitate workshops, discovery sessions and decision forums that create alignment.
- Communicate complex concepts, risks and trade-offs clearly to audiences at all organisational levels.
- Influence stakeholders without direct authority using evidence, facilitation and structured analysis.
LEADERSHIP AND BUSINESS ANALYSIS PRACTICE
- Mentor and support Business Analysts through coaching, knowledge sharing and constructive feedback.
- Select and adapt business analysis techniques, models and facilitation methods based on context, complexity and stakeholder needs.
- Contribute to the evolution of Business Analysis standards and capability development across the function.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
FIRST 3 MONTHS – CONNECT
- Build a strong understanding of Springer Nature Technology's strategy, governance processes and technology landscape.
- Establish effective relationships with stakeholders across business, technology and architecture teams.
- Produce initial analysis outputs, process models and recommendations of demonstrable quality.
FIRST 6 MONTHS – DELIVERY
- Lead end-to-end discovery, analysis and option evaluation for complex, ambiguous and cross-functional initiatives independently.
- Contribute to investment decisions by building well-structured, evidence-based business cases that translate complex analysis into a clear, compelling narrative for decision-makers.
- Build a reputation for helping teams navigate ambiguity and reach decisions.
FIRST 12 MONTHS – DELIVER STRATEGIC IMPACT
- Influence investment, portfolio and technology decisions through high-quality analysis.
- Contribute directly to due diligence, integration or transformation work with measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrate measurable business value through improved investment decisions, reduced uncertainty, clearer options analysis and stronger alignment between business and technology outcomes.
About YOU
YOUR EXPERIENCE
- Degree in business, finance or technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst.
- Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical and financial modelling skills; experience creating business cases and business requirements documentation.
- Solid business acumen and knowledge of IT operations, information security, business systems and digital product development.
- Experience delivering change via global, cross-functional initiatives, across multiple project methodologies.
- Exceptional collaboration, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, including strong facilitation and consensus-building ability.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and be highly organised and detail-oriented.
- Comfortable with ambiguity, shifting priorities and distributed, multi-time zone stakeholder groups.
- Experience driving continuous improvement and innovation across teams.
- Knowledge of the M&A process, including due diligence, valuation, and negotiation is a plus but not required.
