Full description

You desire impactful work.

You’re RGA ready

RGA is a purpose-driven organization working to solve today’s challenges through innovation and collaboration. A Fortune 200 Company and listed among its World’s Most Admired Companies, we’re the only global reinsurance company to focus primarily on life- and health-related solutions. Join our multinational team of intelligent, motivated, and collaborative people, and help us make financial protection accessible to all.

About the Role

RGA is executing a multi-year modernization of its investment technologies, including applications, workflow, APIs and integration, and the investment data & analytics platform spanning the front, middle, and back office of a large account portfolio. The Senior Software Engineering Architect, Investment Technologies will own end-to-end solution architecture across the full stack.

You will set the reference architecture across application, integration, data, and infrastructure tiers, defend it in delivery, drive prototyping of complex solutions, and be accountable for what ships across multiple agile teams operating in a product-oriented disposition.

What You’ll Do

  • Own end-to-end solution architecture across the investment technology estate: applications, services, and data for front-, middle-, and back-office teams; APIs and services; the integration fabric; and the investment data & analytics platform, including its interfaces to multi-basis accounting.
  • Define and enforce the reference architecture at every tier: canonical investment domain model, IBOR/ABOR/PBOR data flows, API-first service standards, event-driven and batch integration patterns (CDC, streaming, file), and application technology standards.
  • Engage with investment engineering teams for implementations from UI to pipeline, production code quality, review designs and pull requests, and set the engineering bar for testing, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Architect around the vendor estate — order/portfolio management, investment accounting, private markets, market data providers, and custodians — building the applications, APIs, and automation that close the gaps vendors leave, with explicit build-vs-buy-vs-configure decisions.
  • Design on a modern AWS cloud stack end to end: serverless and containerized services, eventing, workflow orchestration, and a Snowflake-based data platform with cost and controls treated as first-class architecture criteria.
  • Engineer for a regulated environment: architectures must produce SOX ITGC and SOC 1/2 evidence by design, with data lineage, logging, and traceable audit controls.
  • Build the architectural runway within Agile and RGA’s Product Delivery Operating Model: author enabler epics, participate in PI planning, sequence technical debt, and keep investment technologies delivery teams building against established target state.
  • Mentor senior engineers and partner credibly with enterprise architecture, information security, data governance, investment operations, and investment accounting leadership.

What You’ll Bring

  • 12+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years architecting and delivering platforms for buy-side investments at an asset manager, insurer general account, pension, or investment-platform vendor.
  • Demonstrated depth in at least two tiers of the stack — application and services engineering, data platform engineering, cloud infrastructure and genuine working fluency across all three. Equal mastery everywhere is not expected; single-tier specialists will struggle in this seat.
  • Working fluency in the investment data domain: trade lifecycle, IBOR vs. ABOR, fixed income and derivatives, private and structured assets, corporate actions, and reconciliation.
  • Strong software engineering experience leveraging technologies like Python, Javascript, SQL, Terraform, bash plus modern web application experience (TypeScript/React-class front ends; REST, GraphQL, or event-driven APIs).
  • Hands-on AWS experience (compute, serverless, containers, eventing, IAM) and a Snowflake-class cloud data platform, including streaming ingestion and orchestration at scale.
  • Experience applying generative AI and agentic tooling to engineering delivery or building AI-assisted workflow applications.
  • Direct experience integrating major investment platforms (Aladdin, Bloomberg, SimCorp, Eagle, Clearwater, PAM-class accounting systems, or similar) including where they bend and where they break.
  • Experience delivering under audit: SOX, SOC 1/2, model governance, or an equivalent controls regime, with the scars to prove you design for evidence rather than retrofit it.
  • Ability to tailor communication to both technical and business audiences from the individual contributor to the executive level.

Strong Pluses

  • Insurance or reinsurance general-account experience, including investment accounting and statutory reporting exposure.
  • Familiarity with Asset-Liability Management and the actuarial interface to investment data.
  • Private credit or private markets platform experience.
  • Experience operating within an Agile Methodology in a product-oriented technology organization.
