We are seeking a Network Engineer 2 to join our Security and Electronic Systems (SES) business Unit. As part of (SES) Strategic Business Unit you will be part of a team that designs, engineers, integrates, operates and maintains electronic security services inclusive of intrusion detection, access control, biometric authentication, video surveillance, audio visual, it systems, perimeter defense and command and control systems for federal, local and commercial customers across high-growth markets.
Responsibilities
Technical:
- Survey Reports measurement results in actionable form to more senior personnel and management.
- Conducts any surveys, inspections, tours, etc. of client sites, as required
- Review existing network infrastructure designs and onsite conditions
- Perform analysis of onsite LAN/WAN infrastructure including network utilization, performance issues including switching and routing, security issues / concerns, cabling infrastructure, COMSEC infrastructure, etc.
Design:
- Develop high level network architectures including OV-1 and OV-2
- Develop requirements documentation and perform assessments of alternatives for multiple vendors
- Perform network modeling of proposed designs prior to final architecture and product selections. Determine optimal architectures to include switching architectures, routing protocols, redundancy architectures, secure designs (DMZ, firewalls, IDS/IPS, etc.)
- Perform testing and assessments of different network hardware and software, both traditional hardware and virtualized appliances. Perform hardware selection for switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers.
- Install, configure, and maintain network architectures including network equipment, and devices.
- Determine security architectures including applying vendor and client hardening guides, implement firewall rules and QoS profiles, determine required network services (RADIUS, 802.1x, timing / NTP, etc)
- Develop automation scripts for deploying zero touch network architectures
- Stay abreast of current networking technologies including NAAS, SDWAN, Post Quantum cryptography, etc.
- Work closely with the field engineers to simulate expected system level performance and provide quick feedback on potential improvement
- Assist senior network engineers to identify and resolve network security issues.
- Develop network designs for each SLA classification.
- Originates design documents for small projects and in support of large programs
- Assists Senior Engineers in preparation of Designs, including: Narrative Design Documents, Systems and Subsystem Designs (CAD / Panels / Layouts / Wiring / Hardware / Communications)
- Preparation of Specifications, Perform QA/QC and technical reviews of designs.
- Comment Resolution Testing & Commission Review / Approval of test plans (Safety / Risk / Manufacturability)
- Author test plans Leads / supervises testing activities
- Author testing / commissioning procedures
- Preparation of test reports
- Commissioning of deployed systems
- Development of test fixtures and simulation devices Generates standard PITCO plans and procedures.
- Design and perform complete system integration test
Service & Maintenance:
- Troubleshoot and debugging complex network problems and recommending operational efficiency improvements
- Preventative maintenance (software/hardware/firmware upgrades) including security updates, performance upgrades and schedule maintenance.
- Originate and submit maintenance plan and provide role back plan.
- Serves as backup for team members during paid time off.
- Perform hardware / software upgrades and replacements on existing systems
- Requires ability to support a 24/7 on-call schedule
System Analysis and Reporting:
- Documents the crucial working procedures and Troubleshooting of network operations.
- Employs moderate understanding of network administration as related to business operations.
- Assists team members in identifying and resolving basic/moderate Network/Telecom issues.
- Interprets and analyzes results versus established benchmarks and goals.
- Works with project managers to meet expectations for Network tasks.
- Completes project tasks and assignments to meet project deadlines.
- Contributes to own team and closely related teams through quality and accuracy of output.
- Performing research on available technologies and products as needed by the Operations or Project managers
Qualifications
Clearance/Citizen Type: Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information; Active DoD SECRET Clearance is REQUIRED.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology (IT) or a related discipline and 2+ years of progressive experience.
Technical Skills:
- Understanding of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) concepts.
- Understanding of security issues and implications for network solutions.
- Knowledge of network concepts, technologies, tools and philosophies, and the ability to design an organization's network infrastructure and services.
- Knowledge of system development methodology, project management, system architecture an analytical/problem solving skills.
Communication Skills:
- Strong oral, technical writing, and presentation skills
- Ability to build productive relationships with team members, clients and other network/system stakeholders.
- Ability to establish working relationships with others outside area of expertise.
Behavioral Skills:

Preferred Experience:
- 5+ years recent hands on experience building, deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting network architectures and experience sustaining production network environments
- Use of Visio and/or AutoCAD for developing network architecture diagrams
- Experience with Ansible, Terraform, Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco ISE, Microsoft NPS, Juniper Security Director,
- Reading network and connectivity schematics and plans
- Network system startup, configuration, and calibration
- Testing and troubleshooting
- Use of basic electrical and machinist hand tools
- Use of testing, calibration, or industry-specific tools and software (spectrum analyzer, cable tester, Alignment tool) Tools/Software
- Ticketing and monitoring toolsets
- Knowledge of one or more IT/Network platform, such as: Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, or Arista
- Standard Network Software (Visio, Wireshark, Putty, CLI, etc)
- Knowledge of Cybersecurity and STIG applications to network systems
