Service Engineering and Aftersales Manager

Department: Aftersales & Service Engineering

Employment Type: Permanent

Location: Windlesham

Reporting To: Mike Sopp

Description

We are looking for a Service Engineering and Aftersales Manager to deliver and continuously improve serviceability and aftersales across Gordon Murray Automotive's vehicle programmes. You'll provide leadership and guidance, and you'll lead by example.

You'll sit within Service Operations and report to the Global Director of Aftersales. Your work shapes how cars built around low mass, driving perfection and engineering art are maintained, repaired and supported.

This is an exciting opportunity to follow a car's serviceability from the first DMU assessment through design control meetings and physical review, then on to the diagnostic system, repair methods, spare parts manual, owners' documentation and technical training, spare part purchasing and stock management and spare part order fulfilment to Gordon Murray global service network for each new model.

Key Responsibilities

You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders and business units, including the Creative Department, Finance and the leadership team, so the work stays cross-functional.

This is your chance to:

  • Lead the delivery and continuous improvement of serviceability and aftersales deliverables, providing leadership and guidance and leading by example.
  • Drive every aftersales deliverable through the Gordon Murray Automotive Vehicle Development Project gateways, making sure each one reaches Green or Amber status.
  • Secure vehicle design serviceability targets through DMU assessment, design control meetings and physical review.
  • Oversee competitor benchmarking for serviceability and cost of ownership, so you know how other cars compare.
  • Deliver the Gordon Murray Automotive Diagnostic System and Guided Test Steps, including the operating software and hardware.
  • Own the special workshop equipment, the maintenance and body repair methodologies and instructions, and the spare parts manual, managing the suppliers for each.
  • Produce owners' documentation in hardback and electronic versions with the Creative Department for each new model launch, and maintain current versions.
  • Build the GMA spare part pricing strategy with Finance and the leadership team.
  • Oversee the aftersales spare parts inventory, stock levels and warehouse, including spare parts orders to service centres.
  • Run the customer assistance programme, including roadside assistance where applicable by region.
  • Develop timing plans and business cases for serviceability and aftersales projects, and make sure they're delivered within agreed timelines.
  • Keep all vehicle programmes within budget.
  • Ensure all service actions, campaigns and recalls are managed within company processes.
  • Create and run the technical training for each new model release, from the pilot training through to course delivery.
  • Champion initiatives that improve productivity and efficiency within the department.
  • Uphold Health & Safety Policy requirements within your areas of responsibility.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You'll be organised and self-directing, with a proven track record in project and task management and clear communication with internal and external clients.

  • A proven track record in project and task management.
  • Extensive knowledge of the whole vehicle, including maintenance and repair techniques (highly desirable).
  • Previous hands-on experience (desirable).
  • Proven experience authoring technical publications for targeted end users (highly desirable).
  • Bill of Materials or change management experience (highly desirable).
  • Experience of working within an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier (beneficial).
  • Experience of using CAD visualisation tools, with CATIA/Enovia/3DX Experience highly desirable but not essential.
  • Computer literate in the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent; equivalent experience in automotive will be considered.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients.
  • Approachable, adaptable to change, proactive and autonomous, and comfortable challenging existing processes.
  • Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious and self-directing, with a passion for delivering objectives.
  • A team player.
  • Mobile and willing to travel as required, though limited travel is anticipated within the role.

Why This Role Matters

A car that's light, precise and beautifully engineered still has to be maintained and repaired well. This role brings that together: the design reviews, the diagnostic system and repair methods, the spare parts, and the documentation and training that come with every new model.

You'll influence serviceability targets, the spare parts pricing strategy you deliver with Finance and the leadership team, the spare parts inventory you oversee, the technical training for each new model, and initiatives that improve productivity and efficiency in the department.

Your work will help carry Gordon Murray Automotive's thinking on low mass, driving perfection and engineering art through to how each car is maintained, repaired and supported.

Benefits

As well as the opportunity to work with a fantastic team, the position comes with:

  • Competitive Base Salary
  • Private Medical Scheme
  • Life Assurance
  • Holiday Loyalty Bonus Scheme
  • Enhanced Personal Pension Plan
  • Enhanced Maternity & Paternity Pay
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
