This Role This role is based in Tokyo, Japan, delivering the mechanical package on a major RHAELM data centre development.

As a Project Manager, you will take ownership of the mechanical package on a major RHAELM data centre development, managing delivery from pre-construction through to commissioning and handover.

Working alongside the wider project delivery team, you will manage complex mechanical systems including ductwork, HVAC, ventilation, and cooling infrastructure, coordinating closely with electrical, CSA, and commissioning teams to keep the programme moving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full mechanical delivery package on a major data centre project from pre-construction through completion
  • Oversee mechanical installation from construction through to commissioning and handover
  • Manage subcontractors, engineers, and site teams to ensure safe, on-programme, on-budget delivery
  • Manage specialist packages including ductwork, HVAC, ventilation, and air/cooling systems
  • Coordinate with electrical, CSA, and wider project teams to ensure effective interface management
  • Review drawings, specifications, and technical submittals, managing RFIs and technical queries
  • Monitor programme, cost, and quality, escalating risks and implementing corrective action
  • Support testing, commissioning, and close-out documentation for the mechanical scope

Experience

  • Proven experience managing mechanical packages on complex construction projects
  • Data centre or other mission-critical facility experience strongly preferred
  • Track record delivering ductwork, HVAC, ventilation, or mixed-use mechanical packages
  • Experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary site teams
  • Familiarity with fast-track delivery environments
  • Experience operating within Japan's construction, engineering, or regulatory market context advantageous

Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services and cooling systems
  • Confident programme, budget, and risk management
  • Effective cross-discipline coordination with electrical and CSA teams
  • Clear communication with clients, consultants, and supply chain
  • Sound judgement on technical queries, submittals, and RFIs

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or Construction Management
  • Relevant health & safety qualifications (SMSTS, IOSH, or equivalent)
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIBSE) advantageous
  • Based in Tokyo, Japan; business-level English required, Japanese language skills advantageous
