Job Description

DevOps Engineer

** We are hiring a team of 4 DevOps Engineers in our Warsaw office. These roles are permanent roles (salary based - not B2B) and the expectation is to be in our Warsaw office 3 days per week **

Overview

U.S. Bank is building a next-generation Core Banking platform powered by Thought Machine Vault, a modern cloud-native banking platform that will support the future of our deposit, lending, and banking services. We are seeking experienced DevOps Engineers who have operated within highly regulated financial services environments and can help design, build, automate, and operate critical banking infrastructure at scale.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a greenfield transformation programme, helping establish the DevOps foundations, automation frameworks, observability standards, and operational excellence required for a modern cloud-native core banking ecosystem.

The ideal candidate will bring strong DevOps engineering expertise combined with experience supporting mission-critical banking, financial services, fintech, payments, or other highly regulated platforms where resilience, security, auditability, and customer availability are paramount.

Key Accountabilities

Platform Engineering & Operations

  • Build, maintain and support the cloud infrastructure underpinning the Thought Machine core banking platform.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions to provision and manage highly resilient banking environments.
  • Ensure platform availability, reliability, scalability and security across development, test, staging and production environments.
  • Monitor critical banking services and proactively identify production issues before customer impact occurs.
  • Implement automated remediation, self-healing and operational tooling to reduce manual intervention.
  • Participate in major incident management and root cause analysis activities.

DevOps & Automation

  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines that support secure, repeatable and compliant software delivery.
  • Drive automation across infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, testing and deployment processes.
  • Partner closely with Engineering teams to improve developer experience and accelerate delivery while maintaining regulatory controls.
  • Promote DevSecOps practices throughout the software development lifecycle.

Core Banking Transformation

  • Collaborate with Thought Machine architects, platform engineers, software engineers and business stakeholders to deliver the strategic core banking roadmap.
  • Support the deployment and ongoing operation of Vault products, APIs and banking services.
  • Contribute to environment design, release management, resilience testing and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Help establish operational standards, observability frameworks and platform governance models for the new banking ecosystem.

Compliance, Security & Risk

  • Ensure infrastructure and deployment processes meet banking regulatory requirements and internal risk controls.
  • Support audit activities and maintain appropriate operational documentation.
  • Work closely with Security, Risk and Compliance teams to implement controls around access management, logging, monitoring and change governance.
  • Ensure all operational activities align with security, resilience and regulatory standards expected within financial services.

Required Skills & Experience

Must Have

  • Extensive DevOps engineering experience within banking, financial services, fintech, payments, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Strong AWS cloud engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or similar.
  • Experience building, maintaining, and supporting enterprise CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar.
  • Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical production environments with stringent uptime and resilience requirements.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and observability solutions such as Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, or Sumo Logic.
  • Strong experience with containerized platforms including Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience supporting and administering Apache Kafka platforms in production environments.
  • Understanding of event-driven architectures and messaging patterns using Kafka for real-time transaction processing and system integration.
  • Experience managing Kafka topics, partitions, replication, brokers, schema management, monitoring, performance tuning, and operational support.
  • Experience working with distributed systems and cloud-native architectures.
  • Strong understanding of production support, incident management, change management, and operational excellence practices.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams.

Preferred Skills (Bonus)

  • Experience with Thought Machine Vault or other modern Core Banking platforms.
  • Experience supporting banking products including deposits, lending, cards, payments or customer account systems.
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps capabilities and security automation.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and API-driven platforms.

Location expectations  This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.
