Minimum qualifications:
- Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Engineering, Sciences, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of experience working with patent data in a corporate or law firm environment.
- 7 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis.
- Experience working with a national patent offices or academic institutions studying patent strategy, policy, and innovation economics using data science and AI.
Preferred qualifications:
- 9 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis.
- 9 years of experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), semantic search, or knowledge graph extraction.
- 9 years of experience working specifically with legal, technical, or patent datasets, including familiarity with patent taxonomies, citation networks, and prior art search methodologies.

As a member of this team, you will have the unique opportunity to develop and implement Google's strategy to protect, defend and capture the value of Google’s technological innovation. You will dive into varied and interesting tasks that include patent-related protection, licensing, dispute resolution, acquisition, deals and policy work.
As a Senior Global Patents Data Scientist, you will be focusing on applied data and AI solution creations and experimentations. You will use a variety of tools and languages to make sense of large amounts of patent data, one of largest legal data corpus in history, generate AI enabled patent-specific applications, contribute to novel statistical and machine learning models, work closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders to constantly search for ways to make existing workflows and processes more efficient with AI.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
US: $192000 - $278000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

- Drive the implementation of patent AI transformation initiatives focusing on patent prosecution and patent transaction use cases.
- Apply patent and AI expertise to support patent engagement with the academic community and various patent offices on empirical patent and innovation studies and advise on AI implementations.
- Work with public patent data, internal data and tool stack to create custom AI solutions to support patent portfolio strategy, development, quality reviews and other patent workflows.
- Leverage patent expertise to develop internal patent transactions specific solutions to review third-party patent and licensing inquiries.
- Collaborate with outside counsel, internal legal team members, dedicated patent specialist vendors to achieve scaled impact.
