Job Description
We are looking for an AI Engineer with strong Data Engineering expertise to join a mission-critical project in the public safety and security domain.
Operating within a secure IT environment, you will work across advanced Agentic AI architectures and scalable data infrastructure. You will design and deploy Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, metadata-driven data catalogs, fine-grained policy systems, and sovereign agent workflows that empower data-driven decision-making for public sector stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery
- Agentic AI & LLM Systems: Build and deploy autonomous agent workflows using frameworks like LangChain, CrewAI, or AutoGen. Implement semantic search, vector indexing, custom prompt strategies, and RAG architectures tailored for sensitive datasets.
- Modern Data Engineering: Develop high-throughput, maintainable data transformation pipelines using Python and dbt. Utilize modern query engines and open table formats (Starburst, Apache Iceberg, Apache Arrow, DuckDB) to query and analyze structured and unstructured data efficiently.
- Metadata & Taxonomy Governance: Design and govern metadata schemas, taxonomies, and lineage systems using tools like OpenMetadata to guarantee strict data discoverability, auditability, and governance.
- Secure Architecture & Policy Enforcement: Integrate fine-grained authorization and data access control frameworks leveraging Cedar, ensuring alignment with OSI and ODSC guidelines in restricted public sector infrastructure.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Support client workshops and daily interactions: requirements discovery, solution walkthroughs, sprint demos, and retrospectives.
- Communicate technical trade-offs and design decisions in clear, non-jargon language appropriate for business stakeholders.
- Help to manage client expectations proactively: surface risks early and propose mitigations.
Qualifications
Experience & Education
- 2–4 years of hands-on AI/ML engineering or data science experience.
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or equivalent quantitative discipline.
- Experience in delivery of complex AI projects end-to-end in a professional services, consulting, or SI environment.
- Demonstrable agentic AI project experience.
Technical Skills
- Core Engineering: Strong foundation in Python development, clean code practices, and standard software design patterns.
- AI & Agent Frameworks: Hands-on experience developing LLM applications, prompt engineering, semantic search, and multi-agent systems using LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar frameworks.
- Data Infrastructure & Stack: Exposure to data modeling and pipeline development using dbt, alongside hands-on familiarity with Starburst, Apache Iceberg, Apache Arrow, and DuckDB.
- Metadata & Data Governance: Understanding of metadata management and taxonomy design, with experience implementing data cataloging solutions (OpenMetadata or equivalent).
- Security & Governance Standards: Experience with access control systems, authorization policies (Cedar), and enterprise/government data frameworks (OSI, ODSC).
Client & Communication Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication: able to produce client-ready documentation, presentations, and technical specifications.
Nice-to-Have / Preferred
- Sovereign & On-Prem AI: Experience deploying LLMs or AI workloads in air-gapped, sovereign, or strictly controlled on-premise environments.
- Tool-Calling & Protocols: Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and structured tool/function calling patterns.
- Domain Background: Prior work in government, defence, financial institutions or equivalent high-security and highly-regulated IT environments.
