Full description
Product Manager, Security Products
Job Type: Full Time (Exempt)
Location: Novi Michigan
Reports To: Director of Engineering
Overview: Brooks Utility Products is one of America's most established electric utility manufacturers, uniting EJ Brooks & Company, Meter Devices Company, and Ekstrom Industries into the most comprehensive product line portfolio in the industry. We are the leading utility manufacturer of seals, locking equipment, adapters, meter sockets, meter-base testing equipment, test switches, and utility enclosures — all engineered around utility safety, security, and productivity.
The industry is entering a generational build cycle. Grid hardening and resiliency investment, an accelerating AMI upgrade wave, and unprecedented load growth from data centers, electrification, and reshored manufacturing are driving demand straight through our core product lines — while rising energy theft and tightening grid-security mandates put our sealing and locking equipment front and center. This is the electric super cycle, and Brooks sits at the heart of it.
Position Summary: We are seeking a high-agency Product Manager to own and scale our security products portfolio, including meter seals, meter rings, and locks. This is a role for a "full-stack" operator who thrives in the gray area between high-level strategy and granular execution.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop a strong understanding of the functionality and customer value drivers of our product lines.
- Collaborate with marketing to develop sales enablement tools and collateral to help sell the current portfolio of products.
- Analyze existing data sets, including customer profile data, quotation history, and variance data, to identify near-term incremental revenue opportunities. Collaborate closely with the sales team to support new business wins.
- Travel with our sales team and spend time with our customers and their front-line employees to collect VOC data that will inform the new product development roadmap.
- Lead market research strategy aggregating industry reports, expert interviews, and other data points that will inform the Security Products NPD roadmap.
- Partner with the commercial and leadership team to build out a multi-year product road map.
- Develop programs for Reliability, Design Validation, Performance Evaluation and Component Selection.
- Support manufacturing and sourcing teams for new product launches, product changes, or any major issues where engineering is needed.
- Develop pricing strategy, product launch plans, and sales resources to equip the commercial team to successfully sell the product line.
- Develop and manage intellectual property strategy and execution on patents and trademarks.
- Manage the full product lifecycle of these product lines.
- Partner with commercial, operations, and supply chain teams to lead “product line simplification” initiatives with the goal of drastically reducing complexity and variety without compromising on our customers’ needs.
- Partner with the operations team in Tallapoosa, GA and Novi, MI to increase capacity, improve quality, and reduce the manufacturing costs of these product lines. Be the project champion overseeing any major investments to scale capacity.
- Build a high-performing team as the product portfolio grows.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering
- 5+ years in product development, innovation, or R&D organizations building products
- Successful track record of new product development and commercial success
- Experience in market research and VOC research
- Strong leadership skills
- Entrepreneurial mindset
- Hungry to grow and desire to win
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, & PowerPoint
Travel: Expected 15-20%
