About Us

At CosmoChute, we are building modular, reusable lunar robotics infrastructure for long-duration planetary operations. Our systems combine mobility, modular payload deployment, survivability through lunar nights, and repair ability to make sustained presence on the Moon economically viable. We’re a deeply technical, fast-moving team that believes in real ownership, real trust and in creating an environment where your best work matters.

If you want to work on hardware that will one day operate on the moon, this is the role.

Your Role

We're looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our core engineering team. This is a mid level role for someone with strong programming fundamentals and a genuine interest in working close to hardware. You will develop the low-level software and firmware that powers CosmoChute’s lunar robotic systems. From motor control and sensor interfaces to power management and autonomous operations, your software will directly interact with real hardware and play a critical role in mission success.

Your Responsibilities

  • Contribute to embedded firmware development for onboard rover systems (like sensor drivers, communication interfaces, and real-time control loops)
  • Support ground software development (like Mission Control tooling, telemetry pipelines, data visualization, and test automation)
  • Write clean, well-tested code in C/C++ and Python across different parts of the stack
  • Assist with hardware bring-up, software integration, and debugging on real hardware
  • Contribute to software documentation, test procedures, and verification activities
  • Debug software issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and test equipment
  • Work closely with avionics and systems engineers and learn how software fits into a space system end-to-end

Requirements

Must have

  • Strong programming fundamentals in C/C++ or Python
  • Academic or Project experience with embedded systems, micro-controllers, or low-level programming
  • Understanding of communication protocols such as UART, SPI, CAN, RS485, Ethernet, or USB
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Good to have

  • Bachelor’s or Masters in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with ARM Cortex-M, STM32, SAMV71, TI, or similar embedded platforms
  • Experience with debugging embedded systems and hardware-software integration
  • Familiarity with Linux, shell scripting, and development tool chains
  • Exposure to ROS or ROS2 in a robotics or autonomous systems context
  • Experience with version control, CI pipelines, or software testing frameworks
  • Final year project or thesis in robotics, embedded systems, or a space-adjacent domain
  • Participation in student satellite, rocketry, rover, or autonomous vehicle teams

What we deeply value

  • Curiosity and ownership
  • Ability to learn quickly across disciplines
  • Practical engineering judgment and first principles thinking
  • Profound mutual respect among co-workers
  • Strong grit towards troubleshooting and iterative development
  • Cross-disciplinary thinking and collaboration

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Equity participation
  • Meaningful long-term growth potential
  • Complete honesty with only legally required abstractions
