JOB DESCRIPTION
The FOX Data Platform Team is looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer who bridges the gap between scalable data architecture, advanced analytics, and actionable business intelligence.
In this role, you will play a pivotal part in democratizing data across FOX. You will work across the full analytics lifecycle—from understanding data pipelines and modeling data in the warehouse, to building self-service data applications and governance frameworks in modern platforms like Databricks AI/BI, Tableau Cloud etc. If you excel at turning complex data into trusted business insights, leveraging modern platforms (Databricks, Snowflake etc) , and collaborating closely with both engineering and business stakeholders, this role is for you.
ABOUT YOU
- Strong curiosity about our business: You ask the right questions, dig into the nuances of business metrics, and build a deep understanding of the FOX media landscape.
- Bridge builder & translator: You can speak fluent "business" and fluent "code," seamlessly translating complex business questions into robust technical models and intuitive data apps.
- Data advocate: You care deeply about data quality, governance, and user adoption, ensuring non-technical stakeholders trust and easily navigate the data platform.
- Perseverance & problem-solving: You tackle ambiguity head-on, whether troubleshooting a data anomaly, refining a semantic layer, or setting up gated compliance reviews.
- Growth mindset & self-starter: You stay on top of modern analytics tech trends (like agentic AI, modern notebook environments, and self-serve analytics tools) and enjoy mentoring others.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- End-to-End Analytics & Application Delivery: Design, develop, and maintain high-impact data analytics solutions and data applications by bridging SQL/Python logic with stakeholder-facing AI applications.
- Pipeline Literacy & Data Modeling: Understand underlying batch/streaming data pipelines to effectively debug data flows, partner with upstream data engineers, and design dimensional data models (e.g., in Snowflake/Databricks) optimized for downstream reporting.
- Governance & Version Control: Implement best practices for code management, CI/CD, and review workflows using GitHub. Manage workspace governance—including project permissioning, environment segregation (dev/UAT/prod), and audit controls for compliance.
- Data Quality & Semantic Consistency: Establish audit and monitoring controls to ensure metric consistency, data accuracy, and high performance across all BI and analytics assets.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with business leaders, analysts, and engineering teams to define core metrics, build context/semantic layers, and foster a data-driven culture.
- Technical Documentation & Enablement: Maintain clear documentation (Data Flow Diagrams, Technical Design Specs, Metric Definitions) and empower business teams to leverage self-service analytics safely.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a relevant field.
- Work Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience spanning data engineering, business intelligence, or analytics engineering.
- Modern Analytics Tools: Proven experience building advanced reports, data applications, or interactive notebooks in platforms like Databricks, Snowflake,
- Version Control & CI/CD: Strong proficiency with GitHub or Git-based workflows for code reviews, version history, and collaborative development.
- Data Warehouse & Modeling Skills: Expertise in Advanced SQL, query tuning, and dimensional modeling within cloud environments like Snowflake or Databricks. Experience in cloud infrastructure and integration services (AWS S3, Lambda, API integrations).
- Pipeline Understanding: Deep understanding of how data ingestion and ETL/ELT pipelines function (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Fivetran), with the ability to trace data lineage from source to visualization.
- Python Skills: Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Python (Pandas, PySpark, or similar) for data manipulation, analytics, and automated workflows.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills with a proven track record of distilling technical complexities into clear insights for executive leadership.
NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER
- Experience in semantic layer management.
- Experience designing and building APIs.
