Role Overview We are seeking a Systems Analyst to analyze business objectives, user requirements, and operational procedures in order to automate processing and improve existing computer systems. This role involves gathering requirements, evaluating alternative solutions, and documenting detailed system specifications. Experience with healthcare applications is a plus. The ideal candidate works well under limited supervision and brings sound analytical judgment to a variety of technical and business challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Requirements Analysis
- Understand business objectives and problems, identify alternative solutions, and perform studies and cost/benefit analysis of alternatives.
- Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or improve existing computer systems.
- Confer with stakeholders across organizational units to analyze current operational procedures and identify problems.
- Learn and document specific input and output requirements, including data input formats, summarization needs, and reporting formats.
Systems Documentation & Design Support
- Write detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer programs.
- Review computer system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine feasibility of requested changes.
- Support analysis and documentation efforts related to healthcare applications where applicable.
Technology & Industry Knowledge
- Apply knowledge of IT industry trends and directions to organizational needs.
- Apply architectural concepts and principles relevant to infrastructure, information, applications, and organizational structure.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, both new to the organization and the broader information systems industry.
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Work under limited supervision, exercising initiative and independent judgment.
- Motivate and work effectively with others to elicit strong work output.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience identifying business objectives and problems and evaluating alternative solutions.
- 5+ years of experience reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating user requirements, operational procedures, and problems to automate or improve computer systems.
- 5+ years of experience writing detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and program development/modification steps.
- 5+ years of experience conducting cost/benefit analysis of systems and alternatives.
- 5+ years of experience analyzing and documenting input/output requirements, including data formats and reporting needs.
- Strong logical and analytical ability.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate team members, and drive work output.
- Knowledge of IT industry trends and directions, with the ability to relate them to organizational needs.
- Knowledge of architectural concepts, principles, and tools relevant to infrastructure, information, applications, and organizational structure.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies, both new to the organization and the broader information systems industry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with the Texas DIR Project Delivery Framework and associated document templates.
- Familiarity with organizational information architecture and information management methodologies.
- Familiarity with existing and planned software technology, and global, regional, and local software architecture and infrastructure components.
- Experience with healthcare applications.
