Description
HITRUST is seeking a Senior Product Manager, Relying Party Experience to own product direction and customer outcomes for relying party-facing capabilities (relying parties are customers who utilize HITRUST products and certifications to make risk decisions about vendors and partners).
Reporting to the Director of Product Management, this role will have primary ownership of the relying party experience, including discovery, strategy, prioritization, roadmap development, validation, launch, and post-launch learning. The Senior Product Manager will develop a deep understanding of relying party workflows, challenges, and desired outcomes and translate those insights into clear product decisions.
This is an emerging product line for HITRUST rather than a well-established one. The Senior Product Manager will set initial direction and build the roadmap from the ground up, with real latitude to shape strategy and a direct line of sight to leadership on outcomes.
Because relying party experiences depends on assessed entity (the organization being certified) and external assessor (the auditor who conducts the assessment) workflows, this role will also develop a strong understanding of the broader HITRUST ecosystem.
This role requires strong product judgment and independence. The Senior Product Manager is expected to identify meaningful customer problems, challenge assumptions, make thoughtful tradeoffs, and develop a clear point of view about what HITRUST should build and why.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Own product strategy, priorities, and roadmap development for relying party-facing capabilities.
- Decide roadmap sequencing, feature prioritization, and discovery approach independently; partner with the Director of Product Management on portfolio priorities, major cross-portfolio investments, and strategic pivots.
- Define product opportunities, desired outcomes, and measures of success.
- Evaluate whether delivered capabilities achieve intended customer and business outcomes.
Customer Discovery & Engagement
- Own relying party engagement throughout discovery, concept validation, pilots, launch, and post-launch learning.
- Develop discovery plans, hypotheses, research questions, and learning objectives.
- Partner with Customer Success and Sales to recruit appropriate customers and stakeholders.
- Conduct customer interviews, concept reviews, demonstrations, and structured feedback sessions.
- Synthesize customer and product evidence into themes, problem statements, opportunities, and recommendations.
Product Design & Validation
- Serve as a close day-to-day partner to Product Design throughout discovery, solution exploration, and validation.
- Collaborate on problem framing, research, workflows, prototypes, and usability testing.
- Ensure Design has regular access to customers and relevant stakeholders.
- Evaluate potential solutions with customers and use findings to inform product decisions.
- Balance customer value, usability, business objectives, strategy, and implementation considerations.
Pilots, Launch & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Own the product management aspects of relying party pilots, design-partner programs, beta programs, and limited releases.
- Define objectives, hypotheses, success criteria, and learning requirements.
- Decide whether capabilities should advance, change, undergo further validation, or stop.
- Partner with Product Marketing, Customer Success, Sales, Engineering, and other stakeholders on launch readiness and adoption.
- Partner with Product Owners to translate strategy, customer context, and desired outcomes into delivery while the POs maintain clear ownership of sprint execution.
Measures of Success
Success in this role may include:
- A clear, evidence-based relying party product strategy and roadmap.
- Growth in vendor HITRUST certifications attributable to relying party demand, tracked against a baseline and target.
- High-quality discovery that results in clear product decisions.
- Strong Product and Design collaboration.
- Earlier identification of customer needs, product risks, usability issues, and adoption barriers.
- Effective pilots with clear success criteria and decisions.
- Strong understanding of how relying party needs connect to the assessed entity and assessor workflows.
- Demonstrated business impact attributable to relying party capabilities shipped under this role.
Required Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of product management or closely related experience, including significant product ownership and decision-making responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience owning product strategy, prioritization, or roadmap decisions.
- Strong product judgment and ability to make thoughtful tradeoffs in ambiguous environments.
- Ability to translate customer, market, and business evidence into product recommendations and decisions.
- Experience conducting customer discovery, concept validation, prototype testing, or usability research.
- Experience partnering closely with Product Design.
- Experience leading or supporting pilots, beta programs, early-access programs, or design-partner programs.
- Strong facilitation, communication, synthesis, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Willingness to travel approximately 25% for periodic on-site relying party engagements, pilot visits, and stakeholder meetings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in third-party risk management, cybersecurity, governance, risk, compliance, assurance, privacy, or audit.
- Experience launching products for new customer segments.
