Junior Data Scientist

Chippewa Government Solutions LLC, a Sault Tribe Inc. (“STI Federal”) company, is searching for a dynamic and skilled Junior Data Scientist to be a key part of our expanding team!

What You’ll Do…

Key Responsibilities & Expected Outcomes

  • Assist senior and journeyman analysts in statistical analysis, data collection, and data organization.
  • Help determine which datasets are available and relevant for specific TA or program evaluation tasks.
  • Collect, categorize, clean, and prepare data for analysis, modeling, and reporting.
  • Support development, testing, and refinement of algorithms and models under the supervision of more experienced data scientists.
  • Create basic data visualizations to help communicate trends, findings, and recommendations.
  • Assist with quality-assurance checks to ensure analytical accuracy and error-free data outputs.
  • Help prepare summaries, slide decks, reports, and visual dashboards for senior review.
  • Ensure all analytical work aligns with DOE/CMEI guidance and supports federal Technical Assistance objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities for Success

  • Foundational understanding of statistics, data analysis, or data science concepts (coursework or internship acceptable).
  • Ability to work with datasets, including cleaning, organizing, and preparing data for analysis.
  • Early-career experience with Python, R, SQL, or data visualization tools (or willingness to learn).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain analytical findings clearly to senior staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; willingness to learn DOE systems such as STRIPES, FAST, PAGE, and PMC.
  • Salesforce platform familiarity or willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail, dependability, and alignment with STI Federal’s core values.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Education: BA/BS degree.
  • Experience:
  • Up to 3 years of relevant data analysis or modeling experience.
  • Supports senior and journeyman staff; performs functional duties under oversight.
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and/ormaintaina federal clearance up to Top Secret/DOE Q clearance levels.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience: 
  • Exposure to DOE programs, federal energy data, research environments, or IIJA‑funded initiatives.
  • Experience supporting analytical work for energy systems, critical minerals, manufacturing, or applied technology topics.
  • Familiarity with basic data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib, etc.).
  • Understanding of federal program documentation, TA workflows, or multi-stakeholder data needs.
  • Interestin developing modeling skills relevant to energy forecasting, supply chain analytics, or program evaluation.

Work Environment 

  • Environment: Work will be performed in a climate-controlled office, remotely or possibly on client sites as needed.
