Senior Financial Analyst – Revenue Streams

Finance, FGL – Financial General Ledger | Sofia, Bulgaria (office first)

About the team

The Financial General Ledger (FGL) team sits at the strategic core of SumUp's financial operations. We're not your typical accounting team , we own the financial integrity of SumUp's core business, ensuring every euro of revenue and cost from our lending, payments, and merchant banking products is accurately captured and analyzed.

As SumUp scales exponentially, lending volumes growing, our work has evolved into a highly analytical, data-driven function. We combine deep accounting knowledge with SQL queries, AI-assisted reconciliation tools, and advanced data analytics to understand not just what was recorded, but why and how our business operates financially. This is analytical accounting at its core you'll analyze product mechanics, trace complex payment flows, and use technology to automate routine work, freeing you to focus on the analytical challenges that matter.

This senior role is the technical anchor of the FGL team: you'll drive reconciliation quality, solve the toughest accounting puzzles, mentor junior teammates, and shape how we scale our processes intelligently, from our modern Sofia office.

What you'll do

  • Take ownership of complex reconciliations within one of SumUp's revenue streams such as lending, e-money or merchant banking
  • Investigate mismatches and data gaps between backoffice systems, ledgers and cash flows, and resolve them at the root cause rather than case by case
  • Review postings and reconciliations completed by junior colleagues, checking for accuracy, completeness and audit ready documentation
  • Post complex accrual, impairment and revenue recognition entries, and support month-end close within tight deadlines
  • Work directly with Product, Controlling and other teams to understand how systems and data connect, and where improvements are needed
  • Help build structured tracking and documentation for open reconciling items and controls, supporting SumUp's move towards a stronger control environment

You'll be great for this role if…

  • Strong accounting background gained in an international company or audit firm, comfortable with financial reporting, GL entries and revenue recognition
  • Experience investigating and resolving reconciliation mismatches across high-volume, complex data sets
  • Comfort reviewing colleagues' work and giving clear, constructive feedback, without needing to be in a formal leadership role
  • Genuine curiosity about how systems and processes connect, with the confidence to ask questions and dig into unfamiliar territory
  • Willingness to reach out proactively to teams like Product and Controlling to get to the bottom of an issue
