We're now looking for a Senior JavaScript Engineer to own the delivery of complex, accessible frontend features across Caption.Ed and TalkType, right at the centre of that shift.

A Note from the Hiring Manager Hi, I'm Jack, Lead Frontend Engineer. We're growing the team, currently three seniors and a mid, and this new role will be a valuable addition. You won't be walking into this alone. Everyone's been here two to three years plus, and you'll have wider Engineering behind you too.

About the Role As a Senior JavaScript Engineer, you’ll be working across the majority of our TypeScript tech stack, and will frequently touch on React, Redux Sagas, working with audio web sockets, an Electron desktop app (or three), and dipping into a few backend TypeScript services from time to time.

You’ll be coming on board to assist with our aims of broadening the scope of what we ship, adding new features, supporting new use cases, and helping the company evolve its product offering.

What You'll Be Doing The SDLC at CareScribe is a dialogue, so you’ll be involved from the start. Expect to have close contact with the Product & Design team throughout, participate extensively in the ticket creation and writing process in refinement and estimation meetings at the start, as well as joining sprint retros and planning, and presenting work in sprint reviews at the end.

You’ll spend much of your day working on features that support our roadmap, and reviewing the work of others. You’ll have ownership of your features & fixes, being responsible for driving the work through code review and QA steps, deploying to prod, and communicating to the rest of the business when work has been released.

You will also have an important role to play in shaping the team, thinking about how we can go about improving our processes, and supporting those around you.

About You You'll likely be a great fit if you are very familiar with:

• TypeScript
• React
• Redux (or other state management)
• CSS (we use SCSS modules)
• Accessibility practices (WCAG)
• Testing frontend code (unit testing, e.g. Jest/bun test/vitest; e2e testing, e.g. Cypress or Playwright)
• Mentoring or supporting the growth of other engineers

Bonus if you are familiar with:

• Redux sagas & generator functions
• Electron (or other desktop app packages)
• Web sockets
• Media streams and recorders
• Node (or other backend JS runtimes)
• CI/CD pipelines for frontend deployment

We use React principally as a view layer, with almost all side effects handled by Redux Sagas, state management in Redux, CSS in modules collocated with components but no CSS-in-JS, build our applications as SPAs housed within Electron wrappers and make use of both web sockets and RESTful APIs. If that appeals to you, it sounds like you’ll fit in well!

We’d also love it if you are keen to write accessible, maintainable, modular features, and make a real difference to our users while you’re at it.
