Who are we?

At Tradeweb, we’re constantly moving forward. We were the first to electronify the bond market, and we’ve been innovating ever since. Come join our team and find out what it means to lead the way into the future of electronic trading. Collaborate with our creative thinkers who have vision and drive and learn how you too can make an impact of your own.

What’s in it for you?

As an intern, you won’t just be along for the ride. You’ll work with our technologists and business experts to gain practical, hands-on experience that you can use. Our program combines traditional classroom-settings with project-based work where you can get involved with the products and services the firm is working on. Along the way, you’ll have guidance from people at all levels of the organization so you can start to build a long-lasting professional network and build relationships with the intern class through interactive outings and projects.

 Who will you work for?

You will be working for our Reliability & Observability Engineering team within Institutional Fixed Income Technology.

The team as a whole is responsible for how Tradeweb’s trading platform is monitored. We own the pipelines and tooling that collect logs, metrics, and traces from thousands of hosts and applications across our New York, London, and Tokyo environments, and we turn that data into the dashboards, alerts, and internal web applications that engineers and support staff rely on to see the health of the platform in real time. When something looks wrong in production, our tooling is often what tells people first.

Additionally, the team works closely with application development, platform support, infrastructure and cloud engineering, database administration, and network engineering, as well as with external observability vendors. Much of our work sits at the seam between those groups, so you will get unusually broad exposure to how a live trading platform runs.

Daily work or projects include:

  • Building and maintaining the data pipelines that ship logs and metrics from production systems into our observability platform
  • Developing internal full-stack monitoring tools: React/TypeScript front ends backed by Python and Kotlin services
  • Writing infrastructure as code (Terraform) and deploying to Kubernetes on AWS through GitLab CI and ArgoCD
  • Creating and tuning dashboards and alerts so that on-call engineers get signal instead of noise
  • Investigating gaps in monitoring coverage – finding hosts, processes, and services we are not yet watching, and onboarding them
  • Analyzing telemetry data to reduce cost and improve query performance
  • Participating in code review, merge requests, and the team’s normal agile ceremonies

You will be paired with a manager and mentor on the team, given a scoped project of your own, and expected to ship real changes into our environments over the course of the summer.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of modern software languages – C, C++, Java, Python
  • A background or interest in building large-scale, real-time, and distributed applications is desired.
  • Willing to take ownership of their work, working both independently and within a small team.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • A passion for technology.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Comfort working in a Linux/command-line environment and with version control (Git).
  • Exposure to any of the following is a plus, but not required: cloud platforms (AWS), containers and Kubernetes, SQL, or web development (React/TypeScript).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – you will be asked to explain what you found and what you changed to people outside your immediate team.
