We are looking for an experienced Senior Android Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable, production-grade native Android applications. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in Kotlin, Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, MVVM/Clean Architecture, and multi-module development, along with a strong understanding of modern Android engineering practices.
This role requires ownership across the Android development lifecycle, from application architecture and feature development to testing, performance optimisation, Play Store releases, production support, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain production-grade native Android applications using Kotlin.
- Build scalable, responsive, and user-friendly interfaces using Jetpack Compose.
- Implement scalable application architectures using MVVM, Clean Architecture, and modular design principles.
- Develop reusable and maintainable components across multi-module Android applications.
- Integrate RESTful APIs using technologies such as Retrofit or Ktor.
- Implement dependency injection using Hilt, Dagger, or Koin.
- Optimise application performance, reliability, responsiveness, and resource utilisation.
- Design and implement effective offline handling and resilient application behaviour.
- Manage Gradle configurations, build variants, dependencies, version catalogs, and multi-module builds.
- Own Android application releases, including build generation, versioning, Play Store publishing, and production deployment.
- Write comprehensive unit tests and contribute to automated testing and overall application quality.
- Participate in code reviews and maintain high standards of clean, secure, and maintainable code.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable fixes.
- Provide production and on-call support during critical releases and high-traffic events when required.
- Collaborate with Backend, QA, Product, DevOps, and other engineering teams to deliver features end-to-end.
- Contribute to technical design discussions, architecture decisions, R&D initiatives, and engineering improvements.
- Evaluate and contribute to the adoption of Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) for shared business logic where appropriate.
- Work with Firebase and other supporting technologies to improve application functionality, monitoring, and reliability.
- Maintain technical documentation and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- 5–7 years of hands-on experience in native Android application development.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Android SDK, and Jetpack Compose.
- Strong understanding of MVVM, Clean Architecture, modularisation, and scalable Android application design.
- Experience developing and maintaining multi-module Android applications.
- Hands-on experience with Hilt, Dagger, or Koin for dependency injection.
- Strong experience integrating REST APIs using Retrofit, Ktor, or similar frameworks.
- Good understanding of Android Gradle, build variants, dependency management, and version catalogs.
- Experience with Firebase and production application monitoring.
- Practical knowledge of Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) is an advantage.
- Hands-on experience managing Google Play Store releases and production deployments.
- Strong understanding of Git, GitHub, Maven repositories, and artifact management.
- Experience building applications with a significant user base and supporting production environments.
- Strong knowledge of mobile application performance optimisation, offline capabilities, security, and reliability.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to write clean, testable, maintainable, and production-ready code.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of complex technical problems, and contribute to architectural decisions.
