Job Description

  • Design seamless, world-class experiences that help customers discover, book and manage travel with confidence
  • Use customer insights, experimentation and design craft to improve acquisition, conversion and self-service outcomes
  • Full-time permanent position based at our new Product and Innovation Centre in Adelaide

Join Qantas in our brand-new Product and Innovation Centre located in Adelaide to help meet evolving consumer needs by enabling agile teams to deliver faster, more adaptive solutions that prioritise customer value, continuous feedback, and innovation at every stage of the product lifecycle.

As a Product Designer, you will help create intuitive, engaging and accessible digital experiences that support customers from initial travel inspiration through to post-booking management. You will be accountable for translating ambiguous customer and business problems into clear experience outcomes, design approaches and build-ready solutions that improve customer experience and business value. You'll play a key role in simplifying complex airline processes, helping customers navigate fares, ancillary products, booking changes and travel preparation through thoughtful and customer-centred design.

Operating across discovery through to delivery and continuous iteration, the Product Designer independently plans and executes research, frames problems, explores solution options and partners with Product and Engineering to deliver outcomes. This role will work autonomously on medium-complexity initiatives and may lead design for a workstream within larger programs, maintaining alignment to overarching design strategy set by senior design leadership.

To be successful in this role, you will be a strong collaborator and influencer within your squad and immediate stakeholder group. You will facilitate workshops to align teams, contribute to design system adoption and improvement, and ensure solutions meet brand, accessibility, and quality standards. You will use AI-enabled tools responsibly to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of design activities such as insight synthesis, exploration, prototyping and handover.

You’ll have:

  • 5+ years of experience in Service Design, UX, UI, CX, and/or a similar role.
  • Tertiary qualification in Design, Human-Centered Design (HCD), or a relevant field.
  • Understanding of design for native apps, conversational interfaces and other digital platforms.
  • Strategic thinking to deliver innovative outcomes aligned with brief and brand.
  • Ability to focus on objectives and deliverables at both technical and creative levels,
  • always user-centric.
  • Experience developing and promoting a product vision collaboratively.
  • Some experience in concept development, wireframing, persona creation, user stories and user testing.
  • Some experience working with and creating user interface design patterns.
  • Experience of modern frameworks and rituals: Lean, Design Thinking, Scrum, Kanban.
  • Knowledge of usability and accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.0 AA.
  • Experience using modern industry tools such as Miro, Figma, Lovable, ClaudeCode, Cursor, and Adobe Creative Suite; collaboration tools like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Practical experience using AI tools to streamline design handover to developers and generate code (e.g., Figma's AI plugins, ClaudeCode, Cursor, Lovable).
  • Demonstrated logical reasoning and sound decision-making, including numerical analysis.
  • Ability to identify and address flawed logic and resolve errors.
  • Ability to solve high-impact design challenges in large, complex organisations.
  • Strong facilitation skills, with a track record of successful outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate design concepts to stakeholders, adapting to the audience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current digital design standards and industry trends.
