Job Summary

This temporary position provides technical and engineering support to East Tennessee State University Facilities Management for building automation systems, SWIFT/digital twin technology, IoT sensors, energy management, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. This position will assist Facilities Management with the operation, development, troubleshooting, and integration of smart-building technologies used to monitor and improve campus facilities, equipment performance, energy efficiency, and system reliability. The position will work closely with Facilities Management staff, engineers, technicians, contractors, vendors, and technology providers to support building controls and the continued development of ETSU's digital building infrastructure.

The primary objective of this temporary position is to provide engineering and technical support to East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Facilities Management for the continued development, integration, and optimization of building automation, SWIFT/digital twin, IoT, energy management, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) technologies. The position will help expand the University’s ability to leverage real-time building data and connected systems to improve equipment reliability, energy efficiency, preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, system performance, and overall facility operations.

This is a temporary, hourly position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic knowledge of building systems, controls, networking, programming, IoT technology, or data systems. Basic understanding of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or other MEP systems. Ability to read and understand technical drawings, equipment information, and system documentation. Strong computer, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate and work effectively with Facilities Management personnel, engineers, technicians, contractors, and vendors. Ability and willingness to learn building automation, controls, energy management, digital twin, and other smart-building technologies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience, education, or coursework in the following:

Building Automation Systems (BAS) HVAC and MEP controls SWIFT or digital twin technology Internet of Things (IoT) devices and sensors Smart-building systems Building data analytics Energy management systems BACnet or similar building communication protocols System integration and networking Data visualization and dashboards Preventive and predictive maintenance technologies
