About the role
The UX Designer will design intuitive, accessible interfaces and AI-assisted workflows while conducting user research and usability testing. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into user-centered designs across desktop, tablet, and mobile platforms.

Responsibilities:
- Design
intuitive, accessible and user-friendly interfaces
- Design
AI-assisted workflows that support information gathering, analysis, planning, and content development activities.
- Design
user experiences that clearly support human review, validation and approval of AI-generated content.
- Create
wireframes, mockups, prototypes, process flows and design specifications.
- Conduct
user research, interviews, workshops and usability testing
- Translate
business requirements into user-centered designs.
- Design
and test experiences across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
- Collaborate
with product owners, business analysts, developers and curriculum experts throughout the project lifecycle.
- Gather
user feedback and continuously improve designs based on testing and business needs.
- Ensure
designs meet accessibility standards and support inclusive user experiences.
- Create
and maintain design documentation, design systems and reusable UI components.
- Elicit,
document and validate business requirements, user needs and process requirements.
- Analyze
current and future state business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop
user stories, use cases, business rules and functional requirements.
- Facilitate
workshops and stakeholder sessions to gather requirements and build consensus.
- Support
requirements traceability and ensure solutions align with business objectives.

- Experience
as a UX Designer, UI Designer, Product Designer or similar role.
- Experience
designing user interfaces and digital experiences for web-based applications.
- Experience
creating user journeys, service blueprints, process flows, wireframes, mockups and interactive prototypes.
- Experience
designing responsive applications for desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
- Experience
translating business and user requirements into user-centred designs.
- Experience
designing intuitive workflows for complex business processes.
- Experience
applying a product mindset and user-centred delivery approach through discovery, design, validation, release and continuous improvement.
- Experience
working collaboratively within agile product teams to define MVPs, validate assumptions and support product roadmaps.
- Experience
developing personas, user groups, journey maps, task flows and user-needs statements.
- Experience
designing end-to-end services, including digital and non-digital interactions, notifications, support processes and exception scenarios.

validating concepts and solutions through prototypes prior to development.

User Research and Usability Testing:
- Experience
planning and conducting user research, interviews, workshops and usability testing.

managing end-to-end research activities, including participant recruitment, testing, analysis and reporting.

gathering and analyzing user feedback and translating findings into design improvements.
- Experience
recruiting and engaging representative user groups, including users with accessibility needs.
- Experience
conducting qualitative and quantitative research.

developing and executing usability testing plans.
- Experience
conducting accessibility testing using manual and automated approaches.
- Experience
supporting screen-reader testing using tools such as JAWS, NVDA or VoiceOver.

Agile Delivery and Technical Collaboration:
- Experience
working in Agile delivery environments using Azure DevOps, Jira or similar tools.

gathering, documenting and validating business and functional requirements.
- Experience
conducting business process analysis and current-state/future-state assessments.
- Experience
developing user stories, use cases and business process models.

designing secure and user-friendly workflows involving role-based access, approvals, notifications and information management processes.

- Strong
communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience
facilitating discovery sessions, workshops, requirements discussions and design reviews.
- Experience
working within multidisciplinary delivery teams.
- Experience
collaborating with business users, product owners, subject matter experts, developers, accessibility specialists, privacy advisors and security teams.
- Experience
coordinating UX activities, dependencies and deliverables across multiple stakeholders.
- Experience
documenting requirements, design decisions, research findings and recommendations.
- Experience
presenting research findings, design recommendations, risks and decisions to both technical and executive audiences.
- Proven
ability to manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience
designing AI-enabled applications, AI assistants, AI agents or conversational interfaces.
- Experience
designing human-in-the-loop workflows and review processes.
- Experience
designing applications supporting document management, content review, document generation or knowledge management.
- Knowledge
of responsible AI principles, including transparency, accessibility, privacy and human oversight.
- Working
knowledge of the Ontario Digital Service Standard, including user research, service design, accessibility, iterative delivery, privacy, security and performance measurement.
- Experience
within the Ontario Public Service or broader public sector.
- Experience
working on education, learning, knowledge management or content management platforms.
- Experience
designing applications for large and diverse user groups.
