About the role
Manage the end-to-end deployment and lifecycle operations of subsea network services to ensure global infrastructure reliability. Coordinate with third-party providers, perform incident response, and utilize automation to streamline network provisioning and performance monitoring.
What they look for
Requirements
Requires over 8 years of experience in subsea operations and 6 years in optical network configuration and troubleshooting. Candidates must possess strong skills in automation scripting, change management, and technical communication with cross-functional stakeholders.
Full description
Meta is seeking a Network Engineer to join the Subsea Operations team, focused on the deployment and lifecycle management of enterprise network services (ENS) that underpin Meta's global backbone infrastructure. In this role, you will drive the end-to-end deployment of subsea network services across Meta's wide-area network, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of the systems that connect Meta's data centers and edge sites worldwide. You will work at the intersection of network engineering and large-scale infrastructure operations, translating complex network requirements into deployed, production-ready solutions.
Responsibilities
- Manage optical subsea network performance and operations, including meetings, day-to-day coordination, timelines, logistics, and budget. Run turnkey projects, and receive and review engineering designs to run field deployments
- Act as primary liaison to third-party managed service and fiber providers, owning the operations and deployment relationship and driving performance. Run regular vendor meetings, maintain familiarity with the contracts, and track measurable performance against them
- Provide technical support to subsea contractor teams for network restoration, performance testing, and engineering services across our global submarine deployments
- Develop and maintain operations runbooks, change management procedures, and configuration standards for subsea operations rollouts
- Identify gaps in subsea operations workflows and design scalable solutions to improve deployment velocity and operational consistency
- Participate in network incident response for subsea-related events, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Leverage automation and scripting to streamline network provisioning, validation, and testing workflows across subsea infrastructure
- Engage cross-functional partners, including network engineering, traffic engineering, and site operations, to align deployment timelines and mitigate risks
- Contribute to team-level goals by tracking deployment milestones, communicating progress to stakeholders, and surfacing blockers early
- Apply AI-integrated tools and workflows to accelerate network configuration analysis, anomaly detection, and repair cycles
Minimum Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in subsea operations or deployment
- 6+ years of experience configuring and troubleshooting subsea or optical networks
- Experience managing network service deployments across geographically distributed infrastructure, including circuit provisioning, device configuration, and validation testing
- Experience developing automation scripts or tooling to support network provisioning and operational workflows (e.g., Python, Ansible, or equivalent)
- Experience communicating technical network changes and deployment plans to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders through written documentation and structured reviews
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
- Background in change management processes for high-availability production networks, including staged rollout strategies and rollback planning
- Experience with backbone traffic engineering, MPLS, or segment routing in a hyperscale or carrier-grade network environment
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Experience contributing to or owning network automation frameworks that reduce manual intervention in large-scale deployment workflows
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
- Familiarity with network telemetry, streaming data collection, and observability platforms used to validate backbone service health post-deployment
