Who we are looking for

We are seeking an Assistant Vice President of Software Engineering & Development to develop and deliver technology solutions supporting Banking systems including Demand Deposit Accounting, , blending analysis and development to identify and drive processing improvements.

The team you will be joining is part of Global Technology Services (GTS), which delivers enterprise technology capabilities that support State Street’s global businesses.  Within GTS, this role aligns to the Banking value stream, focused on designing and delivering technology solutions that support high‑volume, time‑critical processing. The position plays a pivotal role in optimizing key functional processes to improve our data delivery times to meet client expectations.

What you will be responsible for

As an AVP of Software Engineering & Development you will:

  • Identify and mitigate risks using strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication
  • Design and implement scalable, efficient, and secure system solutions in alignment with business requirements in the Banking domain.
  • Proactively identify system bottlenecks using log analysis, metrics, and transaction tracing to address latency, throughput, and resource contention issues.
  • Ensure solutions meet required security, compliance, and operational readiness standards
  • Resolve application defects and provide solutions for application issues, ensuring timely and sustainable fixes.
  • Work closely with the Product Owners and others on requirements analysis, planning, project management, and execution.
  • Implement and optimize database queries and stored procedures to support application functionality and performance.

What we value

These skills will help you succeed in this role

  • Strong experience in Java full stack development (frontend + backend).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS core services, Apache Camel.
  • Experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes/ECS/EKS).
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and RESTful API development.
  • Experience in CI/CD tools.
  • Familiarity with databases (Oracle SQL).
  • Strong understanding of version control and Agile methodologies.
  • Proven technology experience supporting Banking processing, custody platforms or asset servicing platforms.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, critical thinking and sound decision‑making capabilities in complex environments
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and persuade effectively
  • Proven technology analytical experience with a focus on designing and implementing scalable, efficient and secure systems
  • Experience in translating large complex business requirements into technical design and executing it to successful completion.
  • Ability to foster and maintain strong relationships with all partners in the Software Development Lifecycle such as business and quality assurance
  • Be a strong leader handling the team responsible for delivery and collaborate with other teams.
  • Advocate and implement best practices and improve team processes.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in technology roles within financial industry
  • 7+ years of experience with Java Full Stack
  • 5+ years of experience with Oracle SQL
  • 5+ years of experience with Transaction systems.
  • Strong experience with Banking, Custody platforms, Securities processing, or post‑trade systems (e.g., settlements, asset servicing, corporate actions)

Additional requirements

The following are considered a plus, but are not required

  • Experience with Payments Domain.
  • Experience with Temenos products.
  • Experience with MQ, Kafka
  • Public Cloud based development experience
