Principal Product Designer, Yahoo Everywhere

A Little About Us

Yahoo is a global media and tech company that connects people to their passions. We reach nearly 900 million people around the world, bringing them closer to what they love—from finance and sports, to shopping, gaming, and news—through trusted products, content, and technology that fuel their day. For partners, we provide a full-stack platform that helps businesses amplify growth and build meaningful connections across advertising, search, and media.

Yahoo Everywhere takes Yahoo products onto surfaces we do not own. We work with partners across three kinds of surfaces: OEMs, apps and digital surfaces. Yahoo Weather, News, Sports, Finance, and Games land on the devices people buy, inside the browsers and apps they already use, and on the screens that sit in the background of a room, in their car, or on their wrist. Every deal is a design problem: how Yahoo shows up inside someone else’s product, how our brand stays present, and how we add value and keep a direct line to the user.

A Lot About You

We are seeking a principal product designer to lead design for Yahoo Everywhere. You will work alongside the business lead on the hunt for new surfaces and new partners, and you will be the final design decision maker for everything this team puts in front of a partner.

The role has two halves. The first is concept work: showing what Yahoo could look like in places nobody has asked for yet: on digital surfaces, within hardware, and on ambient screens . These concepts let a partner or an executive see the opportunity while the business case is still forming.

The second half is judgment. You decide which directions go in front of partners, you sign off on how Yahoo’s identity travels onto someone else’s surface, and you hold the line when brand prominence comes up for negotiation. You are in the room for deals and pitches, shaping the deal itself while it is still being written.

An executional designer runs the day-to-day production across active deals. Your time is used for concept work, deal shaping, and design decisions.

Your Day at Yahoo

  • Own design across three tracks: pitch work tied to live deals, partner implementation after a deal closes, and blue sky concepts about what “everywhere” can mean.
  • Make the final call on design direction, and sign off against our identity pillars so our brand stays present and the direct line to the user survives every integration.
  • Represent design in deal conversations, influencing the shape of a deal while it is still being formed.
  • Listen to partner feedback and find creative ways to work through constraints to build the best experience for the user.
  • Produce concept work that gives partners and executives something concrete to react to.
  • Set calibration for the team. Read where a deal sits, tell the executional designer what that means for fidelity, and hand off the execution.
  • Shape the partner-type playbooks for OEM, consumer platform, and carrier deals, defining what each one argues for.
  • Partner with the design leads who own weather, finance, news, sports, and games so that what lands on a partner surface holds up against how each product actually works.
  • Step into partner implementation when a partner pushes on something at the identity level.
  • Build prototypes and high-fidelity work in Figma, Claude, and Cursor, integrating AI tooling throughout the process from ideation to execution.
  • Grow the system over time, so every deal starts ahead of the last one and smaller deals become worth doing.

You Must Have

  • 10+ years of experience designing consumer-facing digital products, with a track record of shaping product strategy and shipped experiences.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating strategic and systems-level leadership across end-to-end product experiences and shipped consumer products.
  • Experience as the final design decision maker on a body of work, with specific examples of calls you made and the reasoning behind them.
  • Experience designing for surfaces you do not control: partner integrations, embedded or white label products, OEM placements, or platform distribution.
  • Concept and vision work in your portfolio, including speculative directions that moved a real business conversation forward.
  • Comfort in commercial rooms, with experience presenting to partners and executives and influencing what gets decided there.
  • Fluency with brand systems and the judgment to know where a brand can flex and where it holds.
  • Strong UX fundamentals, including visual design, interaction design, information architecture, and usability.
  • Experience designing across web, mobile, and device surfaces.
  • Strong product and analytical mindset, with experience using research, data, and experimentation to shape strategy and inform product direction.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional collaboration with product managers, engineers, business development, and leadership stakeholders to drive product direction and business outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence product strategy, align cross-functional stakeholders, and advocate for user-centered decisions at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Experience setting direction for other designers and raising the quality of their work without managing them.
  • A strong sense of craft, and the standard to hold it when a surface belongs to someone else.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Figma and working knowledge of AI tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
  • Experience defining, scaling, or evolving design systems and product frameworks across teams or platforms.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working closely with business development or partnership teams.
  • Experience with OEM, carrier, or browser distribution deals.
  • A background in brand or creative direction alongside product design.
  • Experience designing for connected TV, automotive, wearable, or ambient AI surfaces.

Why This Role Is Different

  • You own design for a business that is still being invented, on surfaces that in some cases do not exist yet.
  • Concept work is a funded track with its own place on the calendar, and it is a core expectation of the role rather than a side project.
  • You will be in the room where deals get shaped, with the standing to change what a deal asks for.
  • Your decisions determine how Yahoo appears inside products owned by other companies, in front of an audience far larger than any surface we run ourselves.

The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.
