Full description

Location: Two Snowhill - Birmingham

Salary Base salary: c£54,878 pa to c£64,562 pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits - check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

As a Project Manager at HS2 you will be responsible for managing the overhead Washwood Heath project through the development of the specification and tender documents, procurement, and the subsequent delivery of the project.

About the role:

  • To be responsible for managing the solution development, risks, and opportunities of the named delivery projects.
  • To be accountable for enabling efficient procurement solutions through the development of specification and tender documents that are aligned with the procurement strategy for the projects.
  • To be accountable for managing the integrated team, including matrixed team members and any agency staff or consultants, providing day to day direction and co-ordinating to deliver tender documents to the agreed schedule for the procurement.
  • To be accountable for developing and delivering, with the integrated team, the evaluation plan and programme for the procurement to ensure compliance with HS2 procedures and procurement legislation.
  • To be responsible for the integration of the project(s) with other related projects.
  • To be responsible for providing input to the Client Cost Estimate(s), delivery logistics, key milestones and time, cost, quality, and safety targets to ensure objectives are achieved in line with overall programme plans.
  • To be responsible for managing and delivering the required assurance and governance process across the named delivery project(s).
  • To be accountable for managing the project interface between the MWCC JV responsible to the Washwood Heath works site.

About You:

Skills:

  • Project management – the ability to plan and integrate projects to deliver target costs, dependencies, risk management, and project benefits. Skills profile aligned to APM Project Manager (intermediate).
  • Problem solving – the ability to identify problems and review related information to assist in the development, evaluation of options and implementation of solutions, including the ability to manage and plan workstreams, considering the competing demands of stakeholders, cost, time, and quality.
  • Decision Making – the ability to identify, manage, gather, and synthesise the necessary information and facilitate the identification of options and the application of judgement based on logic and reason.
  • Analysis – ability analyse inputs, assess data in order to assist in the development of strategies and document supporting rationales.
  • Influencing & Negotiating Skills – the ability to influence and negotiate with internal functions and external supply chain partners.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of the project management knowledge aligned to the level of APM Project Manager (intermediate)
  • Understanding of the ethics of public procurement.
  • Understanding of the technical elements and architecture
  • Understanding of the nature of the relevant contract structures and the application of appropriate contract and supplier performance systems.
  • Understanding of risk identification and management
  • Understanding of project schedule management, dependencies, and risk assessment

Types of Experience

  • Experience of the entire project lifecycle including planning, procuring, developing, and implementing similar project activities.
  • Experience of leading, managing people and working across functions and disciplines to deliver objectives
  • Degree level qualification in project management, engineering, commercial management, or the equivalent experience.
