As a social business, we reinvest our surplus into initiatives that advance skill-building and inclusion in the tech space in sub-Saharan Africa.

Job Description

As a senior Data Engineer, you will lead a data workstream for one of our US enterprise clients end-to-end, from gathering business rules to production pipelines and executive reporting. You will be hands-on every day, and the person junior engineers turn to first.

Why This Role Exists

Our data teams on large US accounts are growing faster than our senior bench. Each account now runs several workstreams at once: ERP data integration, enterprise data lakes on Microsoft Fabric, finance and operations reporting, and AI applications on top of that data.

We are hiring 1–2 experienced data leads who can each own a workstream with light oversight, keep quality high, and grow the junior engineers and graduate-programme shadows working alongside them.

What You Will Own / Key Responsibilities

Workstream delivery

  • Own one or more client workstreams end to end: scope, plan, build, validation and handover.
  • Build and maintain pipelines and lakehouse layers in Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouses, Notebooks, Data Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2) following our Medallion standards.
  • Integrate ERP and operational sources such as SAP ECC, Infor, CMiC, Sage 300 and Salesforce, and document the business rules behind each dataset.
  • Design Power BI semantic models and reports for finance and operations users.

Quality and client communication

  • Validate data with client finance and BI teams, and own the fixes until the numbers reconcile.
  • Run regular working sessions with client counterparts and send clear written status updates, flagging risks early.
  • Review code from junior engineers and enforce testing, documentation and version-control standards.

Team

  • Mentor junior associates and graduate-programme shadows, and give them real ownership as they grow.
  • Contribute to reusable playbooks and templates so each new workstream starts faster.

Qualifications

Must Have

  • 5+ years in data engineering or BI, with at least 2 years leading a workstream or small team for a client or business unit.
  • Has delivered on Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse/Data Factory or Databricks, plus Power BI (DAX, semantic models, Row-Level Security).
  • Strong SQL and Python/PySpark. Solid dimensional modelling.
  • Has worked with finance or ERP data (GL, job cost, AP/AR, inventory) and reconciled it with business users.
  • Comfortable in front of client stakeholders. Writes clear, concise English.
  • Owns outcomes; follows issues through to resolution without waiting to be asked.

Strong Plus

  • Microsoft Fabric or Azure data certifications (e.g. DP-600, DP-700).
  • Has worked with US clients across time zones.
  • Exposure to AI applications on enterprise data (LLM assistants, document capture).
  • Azure DevOps or GitHub CI/CD for data.
  • Knows construction, industrial services, manufacturing or mining operations.

Core stack: Microsoft Fabric · Power BI · PySpark · SQL · Azure DevOps · ERP data (SAP, Infor, CMiC)

Additional Information

What Success Looks Like

  • 90 days: Owns a client workstream day-to-day. Has delivered at least one validated dataset or report to production. Juniors on the workstream have clear tasks and get regular code review.
  • 6 months: Client stakeholders go to them directly for their workstream. Delivery is on time with few rework cycles. At least one junior has stepped up to own a component.
  • 12 months: Ready to lead a larger workstream or a smaller account. Has contributed reusable playbooks used by other teams.

What We Offer

  • Senior ownership in a young, fast-growing consulting practice, working directly with the Global Director of Data, VP North America, and COO.
  • Large, varied enterprise data problems with real business impact and executive visibility.

  • A mission-driven company building world-class tech careers in Africa.
