Position Overview:

The Network Administrator ensures the availability, performance, security, and resilience of Waldom Electronics’ network infrastructure. The role administers LAN, WAN, wireless, firewall, VPN, internet, and cloud-networking services that support global business operations.

This position provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 support, monitors network health, resolves escalated incidents, delivers infrastructure improvements, and participates in scheduled after-hours support. The Network Administrator works closely with cybersecurity, systems administration, the IT service desk, business stakeholders, telecommunications carriers, vendors, and managed service providers.

Essential Job Functions:

Network Administration

  • Install, configure, administer, monitor, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, controllers, and related infrastructure.
  • Support LAN, WAN, WLAN, SD-WAN, VPN, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and internet connectivity services.
  • Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, routing, switching, subnetting, access-control lists, network address translation, quality of service, and dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP, where applicable.
  • Administer site-to-site and remote-access VPN connections and support cloud networks, subnets, security groups, gateways, and hybrid connectivity.
  • Maintain resilient designs through appropriate use of redundancy, failover, high availability, and load balancing.

Network Monitoring and Performance

  • Monitor availability, utilization, latency, packet loss, bandwidth, and device performance using SNMP, syslog, NetFlow, packet capture, and centralized alerting.
  • Investigate service disruptions and performance degradation, establish performance baselines, and conduct root-cause analysis for recurring or high-impact incidents.
  • Perform capacity planning and recommend upgrades based on utilization, growth, reliability, and business requirements.
  • Track network uptime, incident trends, service-level performance, and carrier reliability.

Wireless and Remote Connectivity

  • Design, configure, and support secure corporate, warehouse, production, and guest wireless networks.
  • Monitor coverage, interference, channel utilization, roaming, and access-point performance; perform site assessments and recommend placement or configuration improvements.
  • Support reliable, secure connectivity for remote employees, branches, warehouses, international operations, and business-critical devices, including scanners, printers, phones, mobile devices, and operational technology where applicable.

Telecommunications and Vendor Management

  • Coordinate services with internet service providers, carriers, hardware vendors, consultants, and managed service providers.
  • Open, manage, and escalate carrier service tickets through resolution.

Service Delivery and Operational Support

  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for escalated network incidents and service requests.
  • Record, prioritize, investigate, resolve, and document work in the IT service-management or ticketing system.
  • Follow established incident, problem, change, request, asset, and configuration-management practices.
  • Develop implementation plans, test procedures, risk assessments, and rollback plans; perform approved work during established change windows.
  • Meet service-level commitments and provide timely status updates to users, management, and stakeholders.
  • Create knowledge articles, guide service-desk personnel, participate in the on-call rotation, and respond to critical incidents and centralized IT emergency notifications outside scheduled hours.

Documentation, Resilience, and Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate physical and logical network diagrams and documentation for configurations, IP addresses, VLANs, circuits, firewall rules, wireless networks, and procedures.
  • Maintain network-device configuration backups and regularly verify restoration procedures.
  • Support disaster-recovery and business-continuity planning, testing, and remediation in alignment with established recovery objectives.
  • Participate in upgrades, office openings, relocations, cloud migrations, acquisitions, and infrastructure-modernization projects.
  • Standardize configurations, monitoring, documentation, and security controls across locations.
  • Automate routine administration and reporting where appropriate, and recommend technologies that improve availability, security, scalability, or cost efficiency.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, networking, or a related field, OR 3+ years of experience supporting business network infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, NAT, routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless networking.
  • Experience administering enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and network-monitoring platforms.
  • Understanding of segmentation, access control, high availability, redundancy, and secure configuration practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting connectivity and performance issues using packet-capture and network-analysis tools.
  • Experience with IT service-management or ticketing systems and the ability to create and interpret network diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Ability to participate in scheduled maintenance and an after-hours on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, Aruba, Juniper, or comparable enterprise technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or other cloud-networking platforms.
  • Experience supporting SD-WAN, network access control, voice over IP, unified communications, enterprise wireless, and multi-site or globally distributed environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices, change management, incident response, vulnerability management, and business continuity.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift items up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to sit up to 8 hours per day

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office environment with occasional exposure to the warehouse.
  • Periodic work outside standard business hours for maintenance, upgrades, incident response, and on-call support.
  • Occasional travel to Waldom locations may be required.
  • Work may occasionally occur in offices, network closets, or warehouse environments.
