About the Role

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and develop engineers, creating the conditions for people to do their best work. You will combine people leadership with technical understanding and a clear focus on delivery. Our engineering organisation works in a matrix, with engineers contributing to teams across product verticals and our internal product platform. The platform provides shared capabilities that enable the verticals to build and scale their products, making collaboration across teams an essential part of the role. You will be responsible for people development and engineering capability, working closely with product leaders who guide priorities and roadmaps within the verticals and the platform. Together, you will ensure that teams have the skills, capacity and clarity to deliver. You will help connect the needs of individual verticals with the development of shared platform capabilities, making dependencies and trade-offs clear. Alongside other engineering and technical leaders, you will strengthen common practices and support decisions that balance product delivery with the long-term development of the platform.

Throughout, you will help teams move forward with the security, reliability and quality expected of a bank.

In the role, you will:

• Coach and develop engineers through regular feedback, clear expectations and meaningful development conversations.

• Build a culture of trust, accountability and continuous learning.

• Lead recruitment and onboarding to strengthen the team as our needs evolve.

• Partner with product leaders across verticals and the internal product platform to align engineering capacity with priorities.

• Help teams manage dependencies and identify opportunities to solve shared needs through the platform.

• Support technical discussions and help teams balance immediate needs with long-term maintainability.

• Improve how teams plan, build and operate software, following through on what works and what needs to change.

Your Professional Profile You care about people and understand what it takes to build and run software. You give others room to take ownership while staying involved enough to provide direction, challenge assumptions and make decisions when needed. You communicate openly, handle difficult conversations with care and bring clarity when priorities compete. You are comfortable sharing responsibility across a matrix organisation, building alignment through strong relationships and clear agreements.

We believe that you have:

• Experience managing software engineers, including coaching, performance management and professional development.

• A background in software engineering and sound judgement in discussions about architecture, quality and operations.

• Experience helping teams deliver and maintain software in production.

• Experience collaborating across product and engineering, ideally in an organisation with multiple product teams and a shared platform.

• The ability to connect technical priorities with customer and business outcomes.

• Strong communication skills in English and experience collaborating across technical and business teams.

• Experience in financial services or another regulated environment is an advantage.
