ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES | THE WHAT & THE HOW
- Software Development:
- Develop and maintain features of Android applications using Kotlin (and/or Java), following best practices for mobile development, with guidance on more complex work.
- Take ownership of well-defined features or components and deliver them with limited supervision.
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following established coding standards.
- Participate in the full application development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, and deployment.
- Learning and Growth:
- Actively participate in team learning sessions and training opportunities.
- Embrace opportunities for professional development and skill enhancement.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with team members to understand project requirements and objectives.
- Collaborate on coding tasks and actively seek guidance when needed.
- Collaborate with senior developers, product managers, and UX/UI designers to implement new features and maintain existing functionality.
- Collaborate with backend developers to integrate RESTful APIs into the mobile application.
- Problem Solving:
- Analyse and troubleshoot technical issues independently, seeking input from more experienced team members on complex problems.
- Engage in problem-solving discussions to contribute ideas and solutions.
- Code Review and Quality Assurance:
- Participate in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback, to uphold and improve code quality.
- Follow established testing procedures to ensure the quality and reliability of code.
- Troubleshoot and debug issues, escalating the most complex cases to senior developers.
- Debug and resolve issues related to app functionality, performance, and compatibility.
- Perform unit testing and support quality assurance in bug identification and fixing.
- Documentation:
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of documentation related to software development processes and code.
Technical Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or provable, self-taught development skills with a good understanding of how systems work.
- 2 - 4 years of work experience in Android application development.
- Working proficiency in Kotlin (and/or Java).
- Solid working knowledge of the Android SDK, Android Studio, and the Android application lifecycle.
- Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
- Good understanding of UI/UX design principles for mobile applications.
- Familiarity with Google Play Store app submission processes and requirements.
- Exposure to Jetpack libraries (e.g. ViewModel, Room) and the MVVM pattern would be an advantage.
- Having experience working within a high-growth tech startup would be an advantage.
- Have brilliant problem-solving abilities that take product design, process, and technical aspects into account.
- Have the ability to clearly articulate solutions for a technical and non-technical audience.
